There was a lot of unnecessary baggage in his (non-functional) turn one win combo - but this part was the money.

Basically? Have more life than the other player. And then, consume your demigod. :D Your life doubles, but assuming you were in the lead, you win, then and there.

With two swamps, entomb, dark ritual, the two combo cards and an animate dead, this baby goes off turn two. That's just sick.

You can't use Animate Dead, you need instant speed reanimation, since Serra Avatar will shuffle back into your library. Shallow Grave does the trick.

Ugh. I apologize for not reading the whole card. I am ashamed.

Thanks for the fact check and card substitute!

(grant it you would have to make sure your health is more)..... But wouldn't it be cheaper and faster if you had "wall of blood" instead of the avatar?

It's not a bad idea... But with Wall of blood, you can't go from each player having 20 life to a win. You specifically need to be ahead. There's also the difference in the risks you're taking. If your opponent has a zot spell in your hand, and waits until you spend, say, 19 life, killing your 19/21 creature without effort, you might as well just shake hands, and say good game. Same goes if the Rite is countered - you're left with a 19/21 creature with defender, and then... Nothing. The turn ends, you have 1 life, and an 0/2 creature.

Whereas here, if Serra Avatar is zotted... That's rough, but that's all. And if the Rite is countered, then you still have a 20/20 (or whatever) creature.

Cheaper isn't better, if the risks outweigh the gains. That's not discounting your idea - against a deck without suitable safeties in place, the Blood Wall Rite could be terrifying. I just like to bet on sure things.
