why not just icy manipulator so it doesn't require white

Because Eldraziking187 had already submitted the 'untap mechanic' + royal assassin combo, using the Icy Manipulator.

Rathi Trapper is the colour-shifted version of Benalish Trapper, shifted to Black. Much better here as now the combo becomes mono-colour. Nettling Imp would work as well, as would Norritt.
