Yeah i thought of using that red card in a combo too, pay all your life except for one and win by Near Death Experience. Phyrexian mana was another ridiculous mechanic in this block

One of the concided bastards I can't stand at my local place tried this on me just last night, he tapped the soul conduit, and gave me a smirk with "That was an easy win".  I just  laughed, tapped two, said "yeah it was" and laided disperse on the table.  Man was he pissed

I may be wrong, but I don't think that you can pay life all the way down to zero (or below zero) if you don't have enough life points, even if you have something like phyrexian unlife.  You could get them down to 1 or 2 life perfectly though, and you don't need the phyrexian unlife then!

I think you can pay down to 0 life, provided that you have 2 life. If you have an odd number of like, then you'll need another way to get down to less than one.

I've won games using Soul Conduit and Phyrexian Unlife before. Gavony Ironwright was holding down the fort.

You can pay any positive value of life, even if it takes you to zero.
