Title: Land Control - Any ideas?

I had been thinking for awhile. Back in the day I used Sinkhole, Demonic Hordes, Instill Energy and some other cards to basically eat my opponents lands all up and just tromple over unblocked. The toughest part was getting the Demonic Horde in play and start them feeding so I had a little land destruction ahead of time.

Now that concept is pretty easy. What I've always wanted to do is take their lands and turn them into my lands. I'm pretty sure there is a combo for that somewhere.

I have used a card, which I thought was an Instant or Sorcery that turned all their lands into creatures, pulled them over and sacrificed them to that Altar that mills them. They get the rest of the turn to use my lands before they lose the ability to do anything.

The reality is I don't want to turn them into creatures. I don't want to have them for a couple of seconds. I want to basically absorb their lands and use them to fuel my stuff while they go, duh.

The idea doesn't have to fall into any cycle, just has to work.

Any ideas?

First off, creature is the way to go. :D

To Wizard's credit, they've never really made many 'take control of target land' cards, mostly because those would be too easily broken. You've really got three options, two blue, one red.

One are the Orcish Squaters of Ice Age. If they get through in combat, you get control of a target land until the Squaters leave play. This has two big weaknesses - one, you need to ensure they'll make it through, two, you need to keep your Squaters in play thereafter (and they make a fetching target).

Second is Political Trickery from Mirage. For sorcery speed, you exchange control of a land you own, and one your opponent owns. It's weakness is obvious (you lose a land), but it's actually fairly easy to mitigate, thanks to the surge of cards allowing you to regain permanents you own.

Third is Vedalken Plotter, which is strictly better than Political Trickery, in it does the same thing, at the same speed, for the same price, with the same results - but you also get a 1/1 creature out of the affair.

I'm going to submit a combo on how you could exploit the last option, but all three of these are exploitable - provided you use the right cards to do it.

-edit- Here. :D

There's also the enchantment route, via Enchanted Evening, but I was kind of assuming you didn't want to go that whole 'turn land into something' route in general. :D

Take this combo as basis http://www.mtgcombos.com/view.php?fid=2&tid=62448
and add a permanent which turns lands into creatures. So you can steal lands permanently.

What's about Herald of Leshrac and Smokestack?

"and add a permanent which turns lands into creatures"

"The reality is I don't want to turn them into creatures."

Herald of Leshrac/Eon Hub is absolutely great for taking lands. Herald gets bigger and if you can bounce the Eon Hub you still get to keep taking lands and making him bigger. Very cool for black control. It's a little pricey and you would need a guaranteed bounce on the Hub available at any time to make it work effectively. (1 land, 2 lands, 3 lands, 4 lands) I would actually suggest some discard to go with him because if you ever accidently had to give him up your opponent would be in a good place to cast out.

Zealous Conscript would be a good one paired with the red Followed Footsteps enchantment to eat up lands, but again you'd have to sacrifice the land before giving them back then Roiling Terrain would be a good combo there (would be at least colorful).

If anyone else has an idea, let me know.

Well, Darth, it'll be a little difficult, given that I've already pointed out your other real options - but by all means, everyone should share. :D
