The Boros are game-changing. I didn't realize how good Battalion was going to be, much less how fantastically the creatures worked together.

The big problem with them was card draw. I had to dip into a third color just to make sure I didn't kneecap myself. That said, I felt a hell of a lot more confident about my choice than the Dimir players did. Cipher was nearly worthless. I started to feel bad for Dimir players, too be honest. They were weeded out quickly.

I'm interested in how Gruul turned out - did anyone give them a go? I was pretty on the fence with their ability, but others seemed a lot more enthused by the idea of Bloodrush.

Yeah, I get that, but I think it came up all of once when I was playing. Someone Ciphered Voidwalk onto their Keyrune.

(Which caused a bunch of noise at the table when the guy beside me swore up-and-down that Ciphered spells shouldn't remain on non-creature artifacts - the official ruling was that so long as the artifact was a legal creature when targeted by the Cipher ability, it remains with the permanent until destroyed or exiled.)

But I mean, this was late-game, and by that point, I'd already dropped a swarm of tiny Battalion critters, and the next turn, I dropped Aurelia. Cipher was just too slow, too expensive, and there weren't enough blue creatures with unblockable to really exploit it (I think there were three, total?)... which isn't just ridiculous, it's dumb. Cipher was made for unblockable creatures. Now, I mean, there was one player who got creative with the Shadow Alley Denizen, but he never faced me, and he didn't end up winning the tournament.

Boros, Orzhov and Simic all seem to do well at my location (The Simic were flexible as hell, and a giant pain to deal with), and I didn't get to really see any Gruul in play, but Dimir just seemed like it got the shaft.

If I had pulled an Aurelia I would have won or at least have gotten better than 12th(out of 28). :C I went Borzhov because I wanted to make use of my Godless Shrine and Gift of Orzhova. I also had to dip into black to use some thrulls since I already had run out of R/W weenies.

I was pretty upset when I only pulled ONE Wojek Halberdiers. That card was the mvp of the Boros commons at my event.

GOD DAMMIT Cipher and Extort were fucking annoying to play against. I couldn't put enough pressure on and was milled out by the aberration in a game that lasted the whole first round. He had 2 life left and I got him down to 7 in the 5 "sudden death" turns of the second game.

The second round was very similar against an Orzhov guy who was an equally slow player that made us go into overtime.

My last 2 rounds I went 2-0 for all three. The first was a shitty Gruul player that kept 0 mana hands both games. Next was a great Orzhov player that pulled Treasury Thrull for four out of his six rares and had nothing to slow me down.

I was extremely pleased with Battalion and Extort but didn't get to see Bloodrush permformed at all. Did anyone do well/get wrecked with Bloodrush? Same with Evolve. Any good/bad experiences with it?

I haven't faced any good blood rush decks yet but evolved on the other hand a creature that is unblockable that gets bigger is bullshit just saying.

I think they justified it by starting it off as a 0/4. 4 toughness isn't that crazy for a 3-drop. I doubt it will see much play in standard but in limited it's really good.

If i'd gone, I would've splashed simic in the dimir deck to make I faster and used the creature that turns lands into anything in addition to their types to make the deck flexible enough to be fast and efficient lol

What should we call that? God-draft? God-prerelease? Yeah basically luck is always the winner of prerelease events. Even if you're the most skilled drafter in the room, the pulls ultimately dictate the top 4. In my experiences anyways.

This is true. But not in all cases. You could design the worst deck there and still win with it if you were skilled enough. The first draft I went to, I played selesnya and splashed black in. Was one of the worst decks i'd made, and still managed to place 4th overall. It's all about knowing your next moves and your opponents. At least that's the way I play when playing to win or place lol

Ya I went Boros and placed 3rd. I found that Madcap Skills and any card with Blood rush really helped outrace my opponents. Aurelia is a great turn 6 win and Boros Charm is hands down the best charm yet. However, the only reason Borosdid so well against almost every other guid was because of the lack of removal there was in this set. Other guilds just didn't have an answer to Aurelia or my Boros Elite with Madcap Skills attacking for 4 on turn 2. I'm sure the metagame will be more balanced in other formats.

As for Gruul, the only game I lost was to a Gruul deck that splashed white for Boros Charm. His game winning play was attacking with a 1/1 which I left unblocked, then blood rushing it and giving it double strike for the win. I actually really like Gruul. With Bloodrush, every card is a utility card and it allows Gruul aggro players to fill their deck with creatures that can also double as pump spells.

Boros Reckoner seems quite good.

Aaron, I am hella jealous. This one was my favorite iteration of Gideon is my favorite to date. Fucker is dangerous, and plays white exactly how I like to. He also has fantastic synergy with Congregate, the 'Hunted' creatures, and any other card that gives you an advantage at the expense of giving your opponent tiny creatures. If I don't pull a copy soon, I'll just buy this card outright.

Zapdos - I got to win a round thanks to an infinite loop, hinging on the Reckoner. It's definitely a strong, mean card.
