Metalcraft - Dwarven Refuge enters the battlefield tapped unless you control 3 or more artifacts. When Dwarven Refuge enters the battlefield, you may untap target noncreature artifact you control.

{T}: Add {1} to your mana pool.

{2}{R}, {T}, Sacrifice an untapped noncreature artifact you control: Search your library for an artifact with the same converted mana cost and put it onto the battlefield tapped. Then shuffle your library.

Once the fire of life was placed into the dwarves' creations, it would not extinguish for many lifetimes, and they could not bring themselves to destroy them. Even if imperfections remained.
