And forgive my language, but some of these are fucking insane. ^^; There's a lot of great cards, a few brand new mechanisms, and this is only a *tiny* peak at what's to come.

Guess what's back?

We've got our basic dual-lands back. :D

Other exciting land contributions include

a Rupture Spire for the set, as well as a new concept - Guildgates.

Of course, several cards in the set will be affected by your ownership of the gates, such as these fellows, here.

And certainly not least, is the Grove of the Guardian.

I like 8/8 creatures. I'll admit, I can think of a lot more convenient, cheaper ways of getting one, but it's still a nifty card.

Okay, enough about land. Time for some meat. :D Here's Jace.

Huh. I'm not sure what I was expecting... I guess he's alright? His basic abilities are alright, and his ultimate is nifty, but it'll take four turns to earn that ultimate ability... four turns you might not get, thanks to

the cheap, new Terminate for Planeswalkers. :D And away we go with the new fun stuff!

Um.... wow. */* per creatures, with populate activating on combat damage. For three mana. And it looks like the Selesnya are going to be token-heavy this time around - this card can get ridiculous, quickly.

Speaking of ridiculous,

this might be the best charm spell I have ever seen. All three abilities are fantastic, price-appropriate, and useful. For two mana, and at instant speed. You either get a solid green pump spell, a cheaper version of Smite the Monsterous, or effectively a 2/2 Knight with Flash and Vigilance. For two mana. I love this card so much, and I'm buying a block. No question.

And then there's this thing.

Looks like a major plot-oriented flavor card, but I'm glad it's a Mythic Rare, because that could be a game-changing spell. An X-valued discard spell is powerful enough - the life loss that's attached is just making it more brutal. Great stuff.

A non-tap copy ability? Yes please. And then there's this ugly jerk.

Ick.

Five mana for a 4/4 flying haste dragon that turns sorceries into instants. I hadn't really considered a blue-red dragon deck before. I'm certainly considering it now.

Corpsejack Menace is a good card on it's own. Vanilla 4/4 for four? That's good. His ability, however, is great. Just off the top of my head, I can think of at least three abilities (Scavenge, Unleash, Undying) which generate +1/+1 counters, and a wide variety of creatures and spells.

A 5/4 (potential 6/5) First Strike and Haste for six mana? That's not bad. The fact that this set has a Nightmare in it is fun, too. :D

There are a lot more fun cards that have been spoiled - you can find them here.

Red/Black is looking tremendously powerful The Mindwarp/Blaze card combo is crazy.

I'm going to enjoy the necessity dual lands. I have never liked painlands, but I really like the option.

I know that Vedalken Orrery and other cards are already out there, but what sort of sick sorceries could be cast on the opponent's turn with that dragon?

Oh you want to attack with all your creatures? How's about I play my Army of the Damned in response to your attack?

It's not very feasible, but hey, the possibility is there... especially if you have the emblem from Liliana...

EDIT: BTW, this set looks amazing. I'm going to be buying a block as well. Hell yes.

Populate mechanic is gonna be sick with Entreat the Angels. Some good stuff coming out. I'm pretty excited about Fencing Ace and Chromatic Lantern too.

From the looks of the spoilers i'm goin UBR Delver control as my Standard deck. My friend wants to go GB and I'm trying to encourage him to make it a sacrifice deck because that's what the set's GB synergy looks like.

And we've got a few more fun ones. I'ma just show a few cherry picked cards - again, everything can be found <a href=http://castlesandcooks.com/magic-the-gathering-spoilers/return-to-ravnica-visual-spoiler/">here

I get the distinct impression that Dryad Militants will become very important, very quickly. It's also just a nifty, and fairly strong ability considering it's a 2/1 for one mana (that can be either green or white). These are probably going to be fairly inexpensive, so I'm definitely collecting a set.

Now this ugly jerk actually has me wondering.

~Lotleth-Troll BG
Creature – Zombie Troll (R)
Trample
Discard a creature card from your hand: put a +1/+1 counter on CARDNAME
B: Regenerate CARDNAME
2/1

A 2/1 for two mana, with cheap regenerate, and a discard for +1/+1 counters mechanism. Splash blue for bounce, much?

And then there's *this* ugly jerk.

Umm... Meep. Just meep. It's not like green has a problem paying that mana cost. And I mean, considering this next card

I can see a lot of Worldspine Wurm decks popping up all over the place.

I don't know if I like this next card. Or rather, I'm not sure I'd like someone else paying it against me.

That's a game balancer, right there. Your opponent is at 20, and you're at 10? Suddenly, he's at 10, and you're at 5, and the game is a hell of a lot closer. Especially considering that on your opponent's next turn, he goes down to five, and Red-Black loves direct damage instants. I don't like this card - however I sure as hell respect it. Anyone playing white, green, or blue needs to keep some disenchants/counterspells ready for it.

As Knarf has pointed out, We've also got spoilers on the new Niv.

I think I actually liked the original more, but he's still pretty good. Direct damage without tapping, a draw mechanism in place, and hey, he's a 5/5 flyer for six mana. Not bad.

R/B (REALA) Is back in black (and red too). Hells yeah! I'm gonna start playing again when this stuff comes out!

Jace's +1 ability looks like it was designed to be good against Lingering Souls, as well as a lot of the other token generators like Gather the Townsfolk or Krenko. Militant Dryad hoses Snapcaster Mage fairly well.

A few others:

Seems pretty solid. Not as aggressive a beatstick as Delver, but a pretty good control card.

Looks good for EDH.

Not quite as bonkers as Consecrated Sphinx, but close.

Um.... Oh my.

I am going to hate the living hell out of RB in this next set. I am saying this from the get-go.

Alright, I have some serious problems with Slaughter Games, it's a cool card for tournaments, but the problem is that against a deck you know it's just so much more powerful. I might have to put a ban on that in our local group.

Vraska the Unseen = OMG

3rd ability = multiple Mini-Phage's

This is going to be hot. And tough to deal with if it gets going...

I redact all complaints I had about black this set. :D

Four. Mana. Creature. Wipe.

Alright, Wizards, you glorious bastards, I'm buying a box. Two other spoilers of note:

I like it. I mean, it's a cheap 1/1 for one, and that can be paid either in black or green - and it has a free ability. It's not flashy, but it's very useful. I expect to see these guys in the Golgari decks I play.

And this card (credit to Knarf for first pointing it out)

I like it. A lot. I'd love to have it in my EDH deck... just as soon as the pound out the errata of how it plays out. I expect a lot of drama and rules lawyering here.

Yeah, that Smiter is so nice against control decks. I kinda wish it cost 2 more and also had hexproof. Then it would be crazy sweet.

What's with all the counter-hate I'm seeing? I guess Wizards is tired of Blue dominating everything.

Thank god, I hated playing all those UW control decks. Perhaps this means that we'll be seeing more counterspells too though in order to make the uncounterable cards more viable?

It looks to me like there will be more kill cards (Murder, Dreadbore, Abrupt Decay, Supreme Verdict, etc.) to deal with these un-counterable creatures. That's fine by me. :)

looking at the effects of these uncounterable cards and the cost, they are viable and would see play even without the uncounterable aspect

I actually agree with turbine, UW has been dominating standard for the last few blocks, even other attempts to break  it up have failed.  By making things uncounterable you take alot of the backing they had away, and rotation takes most of the rest (bye delver)  Though I like how they did give uw some uncounterables and more flexiblity with the counter, as well as a great ability keeps it from getting to weak

I'm oddly expecting a counterspell that will work, irrespective of the ability. Something along the lines of

(CARDNAME) - 1U
Instant
Counter target spell if it says it can't be countered by spells or abilities.

I mean, they're either going to give blue a major counterspell like that to balance things... or they're trying to change the very foundation of blue. Either way is cool.

Two more - and they're also awesome. This set is so damn shiny.

I love X-value counterspells - the exile effect is also fun. It's no Mana Leak, but it's still a very usable card.

And then, elephants!

1. I love my elephant deck.
2. I love 4/4 creatures for three mana with no drawbacks.
3. It can't be prevented. You can't counter it, and if you try to force a discard, it's free.

This card, and others like it will force people to change how they play discard in the same way that other cards force people to play counterspell differently.

These cards.... these cards are almost sexy.

I'm loving the new syncopate art.

I'm trying to gauge just how powerful rapid decay is, considering it can KO.

The Dryad is the murderer of flashback. They are clearing some power from Innistrad block.

Slitherhead looks like a definitely fun card to play.

Loxodon Smiter and Supreme Verdict are cards that people have been waiting for. The only way to stop these suckers with blue control that comes to mind immediately is Ertai's Meddling, and that was from Tempest. Sadly E.M. uses delay counters, not time counters, so you can't us Clockspinning to permanently delay either spell. Oh yeah, Timestop.

As for the uncounterable counter, I expect it to read "Exile target spell on the stack from the game."

A few more, including

A 6/6 demon flyer for four mana, who's disadvantage gives him +1/+1 counters (because I wasn't hating on black enough lately).

A 6/5 flyer that becomes a 7/6 trampling flyer if it dies (or just gets boosted).

The Izzet one drop, which is a 1/2 on it's own, which can be paid with two different mana types, which gets a permanent +2/+2 every time you deliberately gack one of your own spells. Which is to say you can either just cast spells, exile them, and boost the elemental - or more creatively, you can exile a spell that your opponent managed to counter, and get a reward where none existed before.

And last but not least - the Selesnya legend.

Not bad at all. Very usable, in fact. I'll admit I was expecting a bit more - but it's pretty much a perfect GW card. 2/5 for four mana, with a solid life gain ability to back her, as well as a (fairly) cheap means of pumping out creatures... assuming you already have tokens out. It's not a card I'd seek out, but I wouldn't mind finding one in a booster.

Oh! Also, I'm going to go ahead and spit out the first Gatecrash spoilers! Both Raiza, the Boros Archangel, and Gideon Jura are slated for the next set. :D
