Title: The first RtR spoiler thread. :D

As it stands - there will be five guilds, representing the Azorius Senate (still blue-white), the Cult of Rakdos (still red-black), the Golgari Swarm (green-black), the Selesnya Conclave (green-white), and the Izzet League (blue-red).

There are two confirmed planeswalkers in this set, including a new Jace (rumored to be red-blue).

The leaders of all five guilds will be printed as legendary cratures - but they might not be the characters you were expecting. More on that when I can find hard details. Later days, planeswalkers. :D

Gatecrash is the second set and will contain the other five guilds. Gideon looks to be aligned with Boros. Both RTR and Gatecrash will be big sets, and will be drafted individually. The last set will contain elements of all 10 guilds and will be drafted with both RTR and Gatecrash.

Each guild is getting a new mechanic as well.

So, sad news first - Niv isn't a Planeswalker this time around. That said, Mark Rosewater has apparently he is the first spoiler of the set - he's in fact going to be the fixture legendary creature in an Izzet Vs Golgari. He's also revealed that the new guild mechanics in this block will be entirely new. More as I get it.

I saw that the Izzet vs. Golgari had a new card on the Golgari. It's called Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord. It's not on the Gatherer so I assume it's new. And I know it gets +1/+1 for each creature in your graveyard.

On another note, I saw Niv-Mizzet there the same. do you think they reprinted him?

Also worth noting is that for the prerelease each player will choose a guild.  You will get 5 standard booster packs, and 1 booster pack with ONLY CARDS FROM YOUR GUILD, as well as your Guild Lord as your pre-release promotional card.  A Big divergence from previous prereleases is that the Guild Lord you receive WILL BE PLAYABLE IN YOUR SEALED DECK.  This can be done because your decks will most likely be color aligned to that leader so they don't trap everyone in the even to playing the same colors.

This block is expected to be a Big-Big-Small block with 5 guilds in the first set (Return to Ravnica), the other 5 guilds in teh second set (Gatecrash), and all 10 guilds in the last set (current codename: Sinker).  I expect they'll repeat the same prerelease formatting in Gatecrash, but have something different in 'Sinker'

I also read somewhere (I think it was MaRo's tumblr) that Merfolk will appear as part of the Simic guild, which is leading to the speculation that Kiora Atua will be a GU planeswalker. That could make for a scary standard deck with Master of the Pearl Trident.

Another point made by MaRo was that the new guild mechanics should have some synergy with the old mechanics. Maybe not super synergy like Infect and Proliferate, but he said that if one took a guild's cards from Ravnica block, and combined them with the same guild's cards in RTR block, then the cards would work together.

Just like Arbor Elf, Farseek, Liliana of the Dark Realms, Liliana's Shade, Mutilate and the Arctic Aven and friends cycle, we have another card that refers to basic land types.

If the shocklands don't return in RTR/GTC, I will be very surprised, and extremely disappointed.

The prelease looks awesome.

I WAS going to buy a box of M13 and draft it with my local group.

Now I'm going to save all that money to make damn sure I'm going to that prerelease.
