Title: More 2013 spoilers - and man-o-man are these cool

First, we've got Planeswalkers.

Ajani is cool, and I like 'X=life' abilities, but Lilliana is flat-out the star here. Black land fetch as her +1, her -3 is effectively two seperate abilities, and her ultimate (which isn't too expensive) is a mass mana boost. Love it.


It's a no b.s. X-valued mill ability. That is so damn shiny it hurts.


He's first strike, and he has a built-in Master Warcraft as an ability. This is pretty damn nifty.

More as they come, all spoilers from Castles and Cooks.

I can roll with Liliana. She thins your deck (it's own reward) and then grants you bonuses for it.

My favorite things about her are not just that she is bolt fodder in the beginning, but the fact that her final ability is not only obtainable, but not (immediately) game wrecking.

Since I'm sharing my cards with someone, I think I might get a playset to disperse through our decks.

a couple comments on how the cards above play out:

Ajani - the +1 ability does not need a target.  You can activate it on a clear board because it requires "Up to 1" target.  0 fits the bill for up to one.

Odric - The trigger for Odric attacking doesn't require all the creatures to be attacking when it resolves.  If you declare him and 3 of his friends to head into the fray and your opponent tries to remove one of them with his trigger on the stack it will still resolve to allow you to declare and order the blockers yourself.  This is because the trigger lacks what is called an "Intervening 'If' Clause".  That type of trigger, worded like "Whenever ~ attacks, if at least 3 other creatures are attacking with him, ...", would check on the number of attackers on trigger and resolution.

Rancor + Glistener Elf with Mutagenic Growth and Titantic Growth in the Environment = a brief resurgence of Infect :)

T1: Elf, go
T2: double-rancor on Elf, swing Elf, Mutagenic Growth before damage, 7 Infect T2!
T3: watch them squirm staring down a 5/1 Trample Infect while they have 7 poison tokens.

Liliana can fetch non-basic lands with basic land types, like, oh I don't know, Watery Grave, Blood Crypt, Overgrown Tomb and Godless Shrine. Shocklands reprint?

I'm also digging that we have creatures from multiple planes. For example, Osric and his Crusader are from Innistrad, and it looks like the legendary goblin is from Ravnica. The new card Smelt has Koth flavor text, and a new green ramp spell quotes Nissa Revane. Kinda cool.

I remember when there was a big stink with the old Unholy Strength art depicting a pentagram. I also remember something about the art for Sacrifice causing a stir.

Nowadays we have cards named Murder to go along with "Destroy all Humans" and  "Sacrifice a Human" . I guess people have mellowed a bit since 1994. Either that or we're all desensitized to violence.

I just like the unambiguous flavor of it. This is not a death for political ambition, this is not a sacrifice for a greater payoff, this is not a racially motivated killing - this is an f'ing murder! :D

This is kind of interesting. The internet is choosing Ajani over Liliana, at least according to pre-order demand. The price of Liliana is currently sitting around thirty dollars - but Ajani is at forty, and rising. Is there something about Ajani we're all missing?

Well Ajani costs one less and starts with one more loyalty. Liliana can't even survive using her second ability on the turn she comes down.

her abilities all focus on swamps so unless we get the shocklands that will limit us to basic swamps. Since most decks are multicolored they use dual lands to fix the color as a result 80% of the mana base is non basic severly limiting her potential. End result ajani costs more because he has potential in a greater variety of decks.
