Like Magic 2011 (Scry) and Magic 2012 (Bloodthirst), Magic 2013 will feature a returning keyword from a previous set. According to some screenshots here as well as a tweet from Aaron Forsythe here, Magic 2013's returning keyword is Exalted.

I saw the post and I was saying (quite literally I'll add), "please be banding, please be banding, please be banding. . . aww.)  I want they to bring back flanking, shadow, banding, and phasing.

Exalted?

Ick. Boring ability, should have been 'gets +1/+1 for each other creature you control', wasn't.

Yeah exalted sucks though it would work with some of those loner support cvards. Frankly I would have like to see provoke or amplify. Actually amplifiy would have fit really well with the tribal sub themes that have been occuring

I was super disappointed with the lack of Madness cards in Innistrad Block. I'd really like to see more ninjutsu though just because I would love to make a ninja deck.

Ninjutsu makes sense where it is, with the Japanese theme, along with Bushido. On the other hand, black exalted doesn't make too much sense to me from a flavor perspective, and not just in terms of Alara. I like exalted better in white (speaking strictly from a flavor perspective).

Exalted? Meh... Flanking would be cool, especially against Undying creatures. I think with all of the tribal stuff going on, Conspire, Convoke, Devour, Dredge, and/or Haunt (especially with all the Spirits) would be good ones.

I think I'd rather see Horsemanship.  That's only been printed in one set so far and it'd be a great excuse to pull in some of the Portal: Three Kingdoms cards that are so rare.  They wouldn't even have to put in the good expensive rare ones, just some of the commons. :(

I've always liked flanking.

My stance on horsemanship is the same as this thread's response to Ninjitsu. It worked in the set it was in. Does it however make sense that my Volcanic Dragon (Flying 4/4 haste) can't block your knight, because your knight is on a horse? I can see him, I can fly at least as fast as he can ride...but, his horse is farting? I can accept that when you cast Fissure on a Serra Angel, a goose flies out of the crevice, pokes her in the eye, and she blindly falls into the closing earth; but horsemanship and flying need a much better excuse for coexisting.

Hell I use Horsemanship in one of my Commander decks. Sun Quan for the win?

The variant rule makes horsemanship suck, but other than that it is too good (for those who don't know the variant rule is that a creature with flying can block a creature with horsemanship, but not the other way around.)

Since this thread seems to have turned into "favorite one-block abilities", I'm giving provoke some love. If the mighty purveyors of MTG ever create a card with provoke and deathtouch, it will be automatically my new favorite.

My vote is for either Forecast or Entwine. I really don't think either one of those were given full potential.  Also wouldn't mind seeing a few more split-cards.

Ooh Entwine. That's up there with replicate in the number of shenanigans it causes. I like.

2013 visual spoilers are live. I've got to admit - there's not too much that's interesting, aside from the black Exalted cards.

-edit- Actually, I take that back. Take a look at the art for lands for a second.

Each basic land's art represents a melding of two colors.

For example, the first swamp's art represents black/white, the second is black/red, the third black/green, and the fourth black/blue. Considering that most people play dual-colored decks nowadays, this makes a hell of a lot of sense. The theme is covered in the rest of the basic lands - check it out. :D

Looks like some forty more cards were spoiled.

I like that there's finally a card called 'Murder'. I like that it's a straight-forward black destroy spell, without any other considerations - the mana cost is meh but whatever, I like the flavor.

Jace's Phantasm is a 5/5 for U if you can mill ten cards into your opponent's graveyard.

There are a lot of Goblin cards turning up early in the spoilers.

There also seems to be yet another broken green land procurement deck - it works out basically to '6G: Double your lands.".

they should have finally used some of the abilities from futuresight  like aura swap, delve, or fortify. banding or ninjutsu could be cool too, but i'm not a huge fan of abilities like shadow or phasing.

and horsemanship is completely overpowered.

oh and the new legends are pretty cool too.

More new spoilers.

Rod of Nim - 6

Artifact

At the beginning of your upkeep, draw a card.

{tap}: Rod of Nim deals one damage to target creature of player.

It's a colorless draw card, one that has a nice exploitable 'tap for ping damage' ability attached. Plus, you get all the fun of playing with a Nim Rod.

Crusader of Odric - 2W

Creature – Human Soldier (U)

Crusader of Odric’s power and toughness are each equal to the number of creatures you control.

*/*

It's a cheap white 'values = creatures' creature, and that's lovely.

Bloodhunter Bat - 3B

Creature – Bat (C)

Flying

When Bloodhunter Bat enters the battlefield, target player loses 2 life and you gain 2 life.

2/2

For four mana, you get a four point life advantage, and a 2/2 flyer. Not bad for a common.

Liliana’s Shade - 2BB

Creature – Shade (C)

When Liliana’s Shade enters the battlefield, you may search your library
for a Swamp card, reveal it, put it into your hand, then shuffle your
library.

B: Liliana’s Shade gets +1/+1 until end of turn.

1/1

Also a fun common, the latest shade is price comparable to other shades, and this one give black players a rare land fetch.

Talrand, Sky Summoner - 2UU

Legendary Creature - Merfolk Wizard

Whenever you cast and instant or sorcery spell, put a 2/2 blue Drake creature token with flying onto the battlefield.

2/2

I like this card for so many reasons, not the least of which is my love for both Merfolk and Drakes. And I mean, he's an entirely exploitable creature generator - that's also fun.

And yes, it looks like Exalted is going to be the go-to ability for the set. It's all over the place, especially among black cards.

Man oh man, I like this addition to the spoilers.

Double your goblins every turn, more if you can throw an untap engine on him.

Yeah, it looks like Goblins are going to be getting a lot of love in M13. :)
