Miracle seems like a stupid mechanic.
Soulbond seems like a cool one

Doesn't the blue 'flicker' soulbound creature make its ability useless if its partner flickers itself? I assumed leaving play would permanently strip the ability from both the soulbound creatures.

Boyachi,

You can reattach Soulbond any time a creature enters play. Let's say you have a creature with Soulbond. Whenever a creature comes into play, you may pair it with any Soulbond creature out. It's not just when cast. That's the beauty of this mechanic.

i don't really like the idea of common or uncommon angels. angels should be good, not junk like this.

I don't mind common or uncommon angels. It probably helps amplify the tone of theme of the set, especially in limited. I mean, if angels were only rare or mythic rare, then one would hardly ever see them in limited. I think what they're trying to convey is that with Avacyn returning, angels are coming out of the woodwork to rally around her and smite the evils of Innistrad.

I like however that miracles aren't at common, and that they aren't black. It makes sense from a power-level point of view, and also ties in from a flavour perspective that miracles shouldn't something that you see every day. It's quite gratifying that so many of these top-down mechanics actually seem quite fun in addition to fitting in from a flavour perspective.

Actually, Captain, I think Boyachi is right on this one. Soulbound pairs creatures up, until one of the creatures is no longer under your control. Thing is, when a card hits the exile zone, it effectively doesn't have a controller, until it returns to play.

So, say you have an Orinthopter and the Deadeye Navigator on the table. If you paired the two together, and then 'blinked' the Navigator into exile and back, you have no problem. It returns to play under your control, and you can pair the Deadeye to the Orinthopter again, and everything stays the same. No harm, no foul.

This time, say you 'blink' the Orinthopter.

Orinthopter is exiled, and then returned to play under your control... and that's it. For half a second, you've lost control of the Orinthopter. Going off the rules, that's going to be enough to break a pairing. This means that even though you retain control of both creatures, neither would retain the pair-bond which leaves you with a vanilla 0/2 and a vanilla 5/5.

-edit- Whoops! I'm wrong, Captain is right. Soulbound looks a lot better than I was seeing it before. :D -/edit-

Starship/Zapdos - I'm actually really jiving on Angels becoming a well-rounded Tribe. This set looks perfect for my upcoming Angelic EDH deck.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Tibalt a very good Planeswalker?

I like the idea of taking everyone's creatuers and then sacrificing them to make mana or something.

Set looks kind of meh to me. Too much focus on the endgame. I see little utility playing a mostly Avacyn Reborn Deck

The problem I have with Tibalt is that he doesn't have a very good way to protect himself. In standard, a lot of the decks that play have some sort of aggro side to them, that can get some creatures out in the first two turns. You'd have to play him on Turn 2 if you wanted to protect him and keep him running. The "discard at random" bothers me too. I could've handled "discard at random, then draw", or "draw then discard not at random", but now I'd be way too scared of tossing out that third land that I need to play the next turn to not be mana screwed, or something similar to that. And if you top deck him turn 7, you're not going to be able to do much with him. Besides, if you're playing red, you might as well just go RDW, because this set has really helped out that archetype with Vexing Devil.

He'd be fun in EDH, but I don't see him as competitive. Except maybe in limited. Maybe.

Anyone else see Dark Impostor? That is one hell of a sexy card.

Call to Serve - The card isn't great, but I love the flavour.
Cathar's Crusade - Imagine casting Lingering Souls with this enchantment in play.
Commander's Authority - Cool art. Different.
Farbog Explorer - Reminds me of the Couriers from Mirrodin Besieged
Restoration Angel - Sweet card.
Thraben Valiant - Love the art.

Alchemist's Apprentice - The art is near perfect.
Lunar Mystic - Everything about this card is awesome

Blood Artist - Cool art.
Dark Impostor - Really neat card. It could use a Training Grounds or two.
Mental Agony - The art mirrors Angel's Mercy.

Burn at the Stake - Awesome design.
Dangerous Wager - Awesome for monored decks.

Bower Passage - Very nice.
Craterhoof Behemoth - Probably a GG if it resolves.
Eaten by Spiders - Funny card, probably still relevant while the Swords are around. Would have been good a year ago against Caw Blade.
Somberwald Sage - Turn 3 Titan? Yes please.

Angelic Armaments - Serra's Embrace in reusable metallic form
Narstad Scrapper - Nothing says gothic horror like a giant shambling robot!
Alchemist's Refuge - Looks great for EDH.
Cavern of Souls - This seems bonkers. Uncounterable turn 1 Goblin Lackey in Legacy? You lose.

I also notice that there are several mirrored pairs, like the 2 scrolls, the 2 Triumphs. They seemed to work well in Scars block, glad to see more of them.

So the Moonfolk walker. I don't know about you guys, but I'd like a return to Kamigawa even more than a return to Ravnica. I doubt we will get it though. Two revisiting planes? No way they'll do another soon.

Cavern of Souls might as well be the Lotus of lands with adding in that "you can't counter this" addition it's wrong. That big green creature you want to get into play?

cavern of souls is completely ridiculous. i hope to get one when i go to the prerelease tomorrow.

revisiting planes is way cooler than going to a new one, and revisiting kamigawa would be awesome. lots of cool legend potential.

I really hope they don't go back to kamigawa, just seeing the cards is bad enough, I would hate to be seeing akki again, and spirits/arcanes were even more of a flop than shadow. Ninja's were riducilous and and samurai were a disappointment. Snakes really should have stayed as snakes and not snake people.  Ogres and demons were cool, but that was it.

kamigawa had some cool stuff and the mechanics had a lot of potential. the block itself was pretty broken though. i want to see a return to dominaria.

my prerelease pulls worth mentioning... misthollow griffin, descent into madness, and reforge the soul.

i didn't go to the midnight prerelease, but my friends who did said i guy there pulled a foil and non-foil temporal mastery from the same pack.

While I wasn't much of a fan of any of that block... I loved that there were so many damn Legends. I'd love a non-Asianocentric block to do the same thing - it'd be a blessing for EDH.

if they do a return to kamigawa, it needs to have multicolored legends not just a bunch of mediocre mono colors.

i did like the originality in the kamigawa block though.

It looks like Tamiyo was the standout of the pre-release tournament - it's pre-purchase price jumped from ~$8.10 to $40 over the weekend. Looks like everyone realized how exploitable her ultimate really is.

Suprisingly, Tibalt hasn't made too much of a splash after pre-release - it's price is still very close to that which it had before the tournament weekend. Also surprising was the relative dismissal of Vexing Devil, with only a few dollars increase in price. Frankly, I wouldn't mind a block of these.

Temporal Mastery's value ballooned after the tournaments. Pre-release showed players exactly how easy it's Miracle ability is to use. Same with Entreat the Angels - but at weakest exploitation of it's Miracle ability, it's four flying damage for three mana. For four mana, you get eight flying damage. Five gets you twelve. The price jump really isn't a shock.

Not surprising, though still disappointing, is Avacyn, Angel of Hope's lack of a splash over the weekend. This is also true of the demonic counterpart, Grislebrand. Shouldn't flavor cards have more of an impact to them?

Bruna, Light of Alabaster is the shock over the weekend. Buy this card now. People haven't figured out how bloody exploitable it is, and it's price has gone down over the last few days. Take advantage - when people realize that it's an easy part to many two part combinations, the card will get quickly expensive.
Also experiencing massive drops over the weekend were Terminus, Malignus, Craterhoof Behemoth, and Gisela, Blade of Goldnight - buy these cards before people realize how useful they are outside of Standard, and start increasing their expense.

How much has Standard changed as to where a 5 cost Planeswalker that needs 4 turns to get to her ultimate can pull it off?

I think that her first 2 abilities are better than her third.

In what'll probably be the last addition to this thread, Wizards has finally posted the Event Deck decklists.

I was originally hoping for some fun in the white-blue, I'm actually liking the mono-black much, much more.

Here. ^^
