Subject says it all. If you are new to the mtgcombos community or just like making an entrance post it here so we'll get your backstory and reasons to mock your very existence befriend you and support your ideas. (Though we may do the last part too...just because....)

I'm fairly new to the community.  I didn't actually start playing Magic when it came out.  I work with a store that sold them.  I said that if I ever played it I would get addicted and decided not to purchase any personal cards.

Then The Dark came out and we had this little slot game and one of the cards was Blood of the Martyr.  It was the artwork that got me into the game anyway and I really loved the picture so a player paid for me to play, but he said if I won the card he was going to give it to me but I had to agree to start playing.  I think the whole thing was a set-up!  Sure enough a couple of kerplinks later I was holding the card in my hand.

My first week I was gifted about 100 cards, not to mention buying a ton.  My favorite card was Lord of the Pit.  I had two Black Lotus, one being signed, and I hit the tournament scene.  Being from Boston area we all played and one of the group went to the first big tournament and won it.

As time went on a lot of my friends got tired of theivery and drama.  One of my friends sold his collection and put himself through college with the earnings.  I ended up being the last of a long group of players.

I started another group at work.  I had made friends with some of the artists and was doing a lot of sealed decks and type 2 tournamnets and the Magic League so I played that pretty regularly and I guess the fun just went out of it.  I sold all my cards shortly after my divorce.

Some of my friends still play and have some good collections so I built decks with their cards and played team battles, but I'm not into the team thing and they always know I have something up my sleeve so I'm usually ousted pretty early.  So that gets a little tiring after awhile.  I wasnt' too serious about it anyway.  I'm more competitive.

After another long hiatus I purchased Dual of the Planeswalker on Xbox 360 and have been doing well with that.  I like it more when new expansions come out and beating down the new decks.  I've pretty much had no trouble with competition online or even with cheaters.  Mostly because there isn't enough you can change with decks that if you don't know what you're doing, well, you're going down.

The card that started it all.

OMG I love the artwork for Blood of the Martyr.  I have a similar story with that card - one of my friends gave it to me because he knew I loved the artwork.  I used to carry that card around with me everywhere.

Count me as new? ; )

The first time I saw Magic cards was when Lorwyn/Shadowmoor blocks were out (that is to say, not very long ago). At first, I dismissed the cards as nothing better than flammable pieces of ink, but then Inkwell Leviathan caught my attention. I had a basic idea of the game, and that card appealed to the newb Timmy in me. It was foil, too! Similar to Darth's, the guy who caught my eye with the card taught me to play. It was a fun thing for about a day, then I got tired of it. I never got my Inkwell until a few years later. When Worldwake came out, I thought "hey, I remember this" and pulled the U/W fliers pre-deck off the shelves. $18 later, (I bought a booster with it), I had myself a deck, a few cards to customize it with, and a Jace, the Mind Sculptor. In my first booster, too! Best day of my life.

The first real "cool" card I ever had was Vizzerdrix. I can't tell you what set or anything, just that it was back in like, fifth grade for me. Still have the card kicking around somewhere. I only ever had 60 cards, and whenever I wanted to play, I had to divide it into two thirty card decks. The guy that taught me to play was never around, actually went to Juvie. (idk how to spell that, but jail for kids). I was out of magic until Rise of the Eldrazi, and that was all because I saw Ulamog's Crusher somewhere. Since then I have bought well over 6,000 cards, and sold several hundred. I now play competivley better then a guy in my (new) group that has been undefeated for years. (actually beat him and his friend in a free for all game using my eldrazi).

I discovered this site about a year ago, and didn't dare post anything for fear of ridicule for about six months. For those who care to check at my first few combos submitted, they are HORRID.

At present, I own five commander decks, Ghave, Mayael, Borborygmos, Kaalia, and Animar, Mayael being my fav. I also run 24 60 card decks, of which my favorites include a legacy soldier, tounament legal landfall, and 4 standard legal decks: green beatdown, blue mill (with a Jace, Memory Adept I pulled in a prerelease), Black Vamps, and White Griffins. (pauper btw.)

Yup... That does it for me as far as Magic goes. I'd say the card that got me "in" was Vizzerdrix, and Kavu were what kept me interested. (btw, if anyone knows how a kickbutt Kavu build PLEASE TELL ME! All my Kavu decks have sucked out the wazoo)

For me, I was hanging out with my friends back in '93, playing video games, D&D, and reading fantasy novels, and just being the quiet introspective geek that I was. One day, one of our friends came over and showed us a game that had just come out that week - Magic the Gathering! It was different, cool! You could use cards to roleplay. I was pretty much hooked instantly, with a love of Serra Angel and the Lord of the Pit. I got out temporarily about the Dark and Legends, as it is difficult to buy cards or play while in boot camp. Due to monetary setbacks, I haven't gotten into some of the expansions as much as I would like. I play casual with a group of family and friends every week. I have only recently registered on this site (< 1 month), but have used it in the past to look up a card or combo that might help out my playing. I guess that's all from me for now.

I started playing around the time Alara Reborn came out. I had a blue/black control deck that countered all of my opponents creatures while I beat my opponent to death with flyers. Zendikar was the first block I saw the complete release of and I fell in love with it. It gave me my mono red, green, and black decks. I used to be a budget level player but then I got a job and could spend more money on cards.

Ive been flopping since the begining. My favorite sets were from the good ol days when it was a theme,(not a story to sell a book about)and the cards art or names came from the setting of the plane. Not to say the newer sets arent any good,a lot of great stuff has come from these.

All time favorite was the portal sets.Just cause it was when we really got a flood of newbies to the field of gaming and whenever that happens there trends to be some really awesome deck ideas and just plain old absurdity that kept the game new.

My favorite thing to do was go to my friends house and duel the night away.Jonathan had me as far as cards were concerned and I would like to say we were even as far as win/loses.He did have somewhat of a financial advantage. But i think we learned how to play around the same time.It made for monumental dueling.

I remember we would sit there and play hours on one duel. And my best remembered ending was when it was down to the last of our life pionts and all seemed lost for me.Then out of sheer luck I drew a bee sting.

With all the advantage of stronghold booster boxes and exodus as well I beat em with a portal Bee Sting!

Sorry John, if you read this and get pissed.(come to think of it you were never a good sport about loosing, maybe i was a poor sport too)It did happen and it was very funny.I also remember when there was this kid at school who was sort of a redneck and he would trade anything for wild boar or deer type creatures.

All i all throughout all my years with now over 10,000+ cards Ive never compeated in a single tournament.

I even was planning on going to orlando one time with my cousin to try out.But now I live in kissimmee and havent even played at the colleseum...Maybe i should go...oh well...Nice to be a part of something.

@lin i know which ponie your talking about.

i got on magic when my friend (he actually is TH3 0N3) showed me how. that may sound lame but thats how it worked. He is my idol (and left for college, waah) so I was like sure, watev. then it was awesome and all and I went over my brothers appartment and told him about how much i liked. he was very enthused and told me that he had played a bunch when he was my age and never bothered telling me. Then, I found out that in 2009 from April to August he was given for free from an anonymous source 18,000 cards (no joke) they were all misprints, one or two pixels off and therefore illegal to publicly. well, they sold off all but 800 of them (lots of $$$) and made some crazy epic decks. their games were legendary around school. a team of 3 (my bro + 2 friends) vs. a team of 17! they usually won, using one cleric deck, one elf deck, and one faerie deck (this one was my brother). well, i made a deck of cards they had lying around and bam! i was hooked.

and when I started playing it, I never had anyone else who had it so I couldn't get alakazam >.> I did use Missingno and M however

The first card that really lit my imagination was Merfolk of the Pearl Trident for some reason. I think it's because it was the first card that I read the flavor text, and I just thought it was awesome that some cards actually had story to them written on the card. Though, the only people I knew who played were my older brother and his friends, so I was never all that into it back in high school. My friends were too "cool" to play magic, and instead stuck to lan parties. Though one friend had a brief flirtation with the pokemon tcg, which confused me as to how that was somehow acceptable and Magic was not, but whatever.

My girlfriend's co-worker reintroduced me into Magic many years down the line, and it was her first time playing. So we made a few decks and played fairly regularly with her co-worker and his wife. I have a lot of paper decks I made myself, usually $10-$20 or so each, but ever since moving we don't play all that regularly anymore, so I started playing Magic Online. Now the only problem is having two completely separate collections, LoL.

I still love playing magic, but at the same time I think I can be pretty frustrating, especially Magic Online. There's never a way to know what you're going up against, as the Casual room is oftentimes anything but. I would get more into it and actually try my hand at tournaments, but I feel like it would cost too much money, both in adding cards to my deck and in entry fees.

MTGCombos sits happily enjoying drinks, lively card games, and a perfectly tune player piano, when suddenly a boot kicks down a door to the main entrance. The piano stops for no discernable reason everyone looks up from their game of cards to see me. Why on Earth would I kick down that door?

Why not?

On a side not terribly sorry about the door Sync.

Defenitely a lesser known Marvel Comics Character

The Two-gun Kid

He's been on the Avengers! He teamed up with She-Hulk for like...16 issues! He had his own miniseries! That being said he's not well known enough so that I can use him as my username about everywhere and no one picks up on me being unoriginal until this explanation.

Oh! We're doing entrance scenes?

I jump down from the sky, rolling as I hit the ground. You begin to wonder how I jumped from the sky into a room with a roof, when, WHOOSH, a burst of heat of heat rushes over you as the flames of my flamethrower spew across the room. My pet demons then jumps from my shoulder and dances a jig. With a cane. THAT'S RIGHT, BITCHES! MY PET DEMON DANCES WITH A CANE.

if there's anything else you want to know just ask.

*Slow Claps* Well done everyone, well done...but um...Turbine...You kinda burned about half a dozen players, turned my medium steak well done (a shame really, but alas waste not), and your demon just ate all the hot wings. Just saying maybe we can tone down the entrances a little bit? I don't think Sync's insurance covers interplaner disturbances, outsiders of the chaotic evil subtype, level 20+ characters (Excluding NPC class characters. I mean seriously what kinda idiot makes q level 15 warrior? It was ECL 15 and he makes a human warrior!), Godzilla attacks, or Cthulu.

I started because one time my brother in laws sister visited with a bunch of foster children who all played magic, which my brothers did too, so after watching a few games, they asked if i wanted to join. Now, being the smallest in the family, (12 years younger than the next youngest) I wanted to play with the big kids (all adults). So i joined in, and figured out most of the rules pretty quickly, and won with a big fireball. The idea of being able to do something with my brothers while i was still a kid appealed to me greatly, but an unlimited edition shivan dragon got me really interested on the actual game. this is because when I was small, I really loved dragons, and when i played with my siblings, I always played with my brothers dragon deck first.

One of the cheapest ways to play is to use the D20srd.com website (For 3.5 edition gameplay), d20pfsrd.com (For pathfinder gameplay), Dragonsfoot.org/se/ (For Second Edtion AD&D resources), or use a google pdf search to locate each book for whatever dnd edition you are playing.

I.E. I want to play Dnd 4e, but I cannot find a player's handbook in my area. So I go to google.com and search for:

D&D 4th edition player's handbook pdf

This will usually generate a fileshare.com result or  similar search result from which you can download the book in question.

Please note that the pdf's may not be the most 'legit' way to get dnd , but it is however recommended if your area lacks a decent gamer shop or you aren't one of those insane individuals who consider every little thing will kill the economy and SOPA is a godsend.

As far as cost goes it can vary depending on if your gameplay is minatures based, or story based. Story-based gameplay can be based on the cost of the three basic books (Monster Manual, Dungeon Master's guide, and Player's handbook).  If you choose 4e you can get the entire book set for around 70$.  If you go the miniatures route you will need to figure in the cost of miniatures with the books (It is cheaper to buy the red box starter sets or starter kits. They usually include a set of hero and monster tokens that can be used for some pretty sweet gameplay).

It's perfectly moral to download 3.5 and before textbooks, they are no longer in production, Wizards gets no money from people buying them from other people.

Downloading the Pathfinder books is very unfair as they rely on their profits to make up for many hours of lost sleep.

Downloading the 4.0 books is also unfair as Wizards basis the profit of these books to determine the budget of the 4.5 project (or 5.0 whichever they're working on).

For the record I'm not approving of downloading anything, I'm just saying if your gamer shop only has a monster manual and a dm's guide for 4.0 and everyone's ready to play within a few days the download may be your only way of kicking off a campaign...again not endorsing piracy here...just wanting to set that straight before somepony decides that I'm one of those crooked types...

Respecing is stupid. Make a choice you are stuck with it that's part of the game. The only way I've ever allowed respecing is by use of the wish or greater wish spell

Too much emphasis on minatures (something I rarely used in D&D in part because I don't onw D&D minatures my dwarf barbarian as represented by wolverine attacks Sub-Zero)

Levels are too important and feats not enough

That sounds really silly. Feats and classes are the base of the game, not leveling.

Actually it's not so bad when you apply a few changes to 4e.

1. 5 ft. conversion system. If it says six squares treat it as 30 ft. (Standard 3rd edition mathematics).

2. Powers can be used outside of combat based on power description (DM's discretion of course.) Let's say I've chosen intimidate as a trained skill at lvl. 1 for a +5 bonus to intimidate checks and I have the cleric power Cause Fear (It normally is only applicable in miniatures). I wish to use my power outside of combat to gain a +2 circumstance bonus to my intimidate check (Again DM's discretion). So my total bonus is +7.

3. Add combat challenges to make 4e's combat system a little less dull...

I.E. Clashing

Clashing is a full round action that allows 2 adjacent characters to engage in a battle of pure combat ability. Both characters make 3 separate opposing attack rolls, comparing each result  to determine who wins the clash. If a character has 2 attack rolls that are higher than the opposing character's, the opposing character is now considered prone and takes damage equal to your damage value. In the result of a tie neither character is dealt damage, but both become prone upon resolving the clash.

Lizardman w/ sword vs. Human w/ sword.

3 rolls to determine who wins.

Human gets 9, 13, 18

Lizardman gets 7, 5, 20

The human has won best 2 of 3 in the clash and deals his damage to the lizardman. The lizardman is now prone until his next move.

PS: I'm not saying 4e is bad. I obtained many of my favorite 3.X homebrew races from 4e's character races (Eladrin being one of my personal faves, and due to savage species was fairly playable with a LA of +2 with unbalanced ability scores and the fey step spell-like ability).

I just hope we get enough people to get a decent campaign going. . .

Oh, by the way, we re-rolled and my new stats are 18 Strength, 15 Constitution, 10 Intellect, 11 Wisdom, 9 Dexterity, and 7 Charisma. I'm sad about my Dexterity, since I'm a Thief, but that's how the cookie crumbles.

You sit alone in the room, everyone appears to have left.  The eerie silence sends shivers of uncertainty up your spine.  You slowly peak over your shoulder, knowing you will see me waiting there... nothing.  You chuckle to yourself, "How silly, there's no reason to be nervooouuuuuuuuffffff"
You fall on the floor crumpled in a ball from the shock.  I slowly pull my arm back into position and look at you stare feably up at me in a terrified mixture of pain and surprise.  I have come.

Been playing on and off (more off than on) for quite a while as well.  I started around the Revised core, though bought more Homelands and Fallen Empires because I was only a broke kid barely in high school.  I didn't yet learn the power or strategy of the game so mostly enjoyed bashing huge armies against my younger brother.  I think my favorite cards at this time were the Tallids and Homonids because of the cool different pictures for them.  I got into the game because I was starting to get into Pogs at my school when they banned them and it was recommended by a friend that I check out Magic cards.

I never really made it into the tournament scene while so young but enjoyed playing with my brother just the same.  About the time I got to 11th or 12th grade I began to wane in my interest in Magic and decided to see if I could make some money with the new Pokemon game that was coming out.  I got a little more into the tourney scene with that game, merely because I was getting older and wanted to build more interesting and creative decks.  I had hoped that those Pokemon cards would gain in value like the Magic cards had (at that time they were around $300 for a lotus in Scrye), but never saw a return on my investment.  I think the last packs I bought in Magic were for Urza's Saga, never got me a Sliver Queen, but who did?

After years I wandered back into the game with the Magic Online pack.  It came with a cheap 8th edition deck and got you into the game for $10.  I bought a lot of digital cards while working on the road and after getting a job locally that let me settle down, I found a co-worker that played the game.  We would bring our cards to work and play between tickets and strategize new decks.  From there my interest has grown, as has my experience and collection.  I'm currently studying to get my Judge certification and though I think I can pass at the moment, just enjoy getting into situations that test my rules knowledge.  I am also currently trying to build a collection of Promos.  I've discovered that though the number of promo's is extensive, with the exception of a few select cards or series (judge promos ;) ) they are relatively cheap to get a hold of and not outrageous in their set size.  Anyone want to know anything else, just feel free to ask.

Entrance? Why do I need an entrance? I've been sitting here forever! It's not my fault nobody looks by the fireplace!

Anyway, started with Mercadian Masques, lost interest, jumped back in after Lorwyn, and haven't looked back since.

Been Playing magic since Judgement, first deck was the white one from that set. after that didn't really start buying cards until Kamigawa, which i bought a lot of along with timespiral. Kept up with all the sets and still do now. I've got roughly 16,000 cards, only tourneys ive played are 3-4 prereleases and now im looking to start selling plenty of my cards. Im a casual player and most games either are EDH or involve Planeschase.

For that tale we may as well start from the beginning...

Picture it friends...an excruciating bonding of metal to flesh...molten metal being bound to a man for his sins...the thrice damned church's method of punishment...and when that man broke free of his incarcerations...

His punishment had became the weapon of retribution and in it he found...a sense of purpose...Vowing to burn every last little holy man to ashes...this is where he got his passion...hatred...immense and overwhelming...and in time consumed him...

So he sought the help of a master smith...one who could fashion blades and spikes onto his once whole flesh...Finally he was ready...with the final piece to his new self...a helm fashioned in the most cruel of manners...to his own face...no more did humanity apply to this....being...this...monster among men...nay...for all that remained...was the Metal Overlord.

Yet years passed...as years often do...and eventually the armor came to be this thing's tomb...a final testament to the lengths of his vengeance...the corpses he had left behind...the defilement of mankind's so-called religion...this opiate...disease....vile system...

He went to hell...as most men do...but unlike most men...someone got to him before Lucifer himself...

Riz-Kadoth, The Insanist...saw in him great potential...and offered him a deal...but little did the man know what he would soon wish for hell...for a devil's bargain is twice as fair...deal with the insanist...if you dare...and so he took the bargain...and with it a new title...

The chronicler of misdeeds...the master of hypocrisies...number zero in the tarot deck of life...The Dying Jester...and with it set about his path...hatred no longer needed a reason...just as long as it existed...that is all that mattered to the man...

Yet these things drew the attention of many others...and so an Archangel was sent...Michelle...a former entourage of Riz-Kadoth...pleaded with the jester to cease his actions...alas it was a waste...

Using Michelle's natural empathy...the jester tricked her into helping him fight Riz...convincing her that Riz was his 'master'...

Both beings attempted to strike against the Insanist...but to no avail...Both beings were stricken down...and before the jester's own eyes...Riz did the unthinkable...he destroyed the angel...with a cackle he looked deeply into his former comrades eyes...

"Did you really think it would be that simple? No my dearest Muriel. You must first know how to abandon everything if you wish to stand against me. You want my title?" With this Riz snapped his fingers, causing a guillotine blade to manifest above Muriel's neck. "Get with the program!"

With that the blade fell, severing the jester's head from his body.

Riz simply grinned at Muriel's now scowling head. "Here's a needle and thread. When you finish the last stitch you shall feel no more emotion or cloudiness. Slay 10 people by manipulating their emotions only. Only then will I restore you." With this Riz chuckled lightly. "Good luck..."

And so with that...we arrive at the latest evolution...Number 23...The Guillotine...

That should clarify metal overlord's vanishing...and the jester's progression...fair enough?

How old does this say I am? When Magic:The Gathering came out, I was almost 11 years old. The card that first caught my eye was Lord of the Pit. WAY back in Alpha. I grew up outsite of Seattle, giving me easier access to the cards, since they were made, literally, in Seattle's backyard called Redmond. The place I got my first starter deck was a place called Spider's Web in Puyllup. Ever since that fateful day, I have been a plansewalker. I quickly got my brother to play, and it turned out a lot of kids in the neighborhood played too. As my experience with the game grew, I began to understand how combos worked, and came up with a few of my own, before everyone's ideas got posted on the web. Here I am, 19 years later this month, remembering my first pack of cards. I got the Lord of the Pit I was drawn to. I even remember a friend of mine forbidding him from playing black. If you look at the older black cards, they are grotesque. I remember the old rules and the old cards. I've made some of the best friends I've ever had playing Magic. After such a long time playing and teaching new players, I desided to become a judge. In the beginning, judges had it easy. There weren't all these rules to remember. Hell, when I started playing, you could respond to combat damage being assigned. It wasn't unheard of for a green player to throw on a giant growth at the last second to save a creature. Such happy days...mana burn, interrupts, response to combat damage...makes me feel REALLY old.

My family was murdered in the night. The attacker used a knife.

Don't worry though, he ended up being useful. His head mounted on the wall really brightened up my entire room.

Hey everyone. Just joined the site a few days ago, and only been officially playing since two or three weeks before return to ravnica came out. I started out playing because of one of my sisters ex's, but he told me the wrong rules to let the games go in his favor. But, even so, I've played since then technically. Just got out of high school in june and dealt with a lot of things before and after. This got my mind off things and in a way got me to be myself. I'm always trying to find or find out something new about things, always stay in a good mood, and try to enjoy everything around me. The reason my profile name is chewy is because that's what everyone knew me by or knows me by. Since I was in middle school it kinda stuck, so I continued it lol. But when i'm not at work or out somewhere, this is one of the things I do in my spare time. If anyone wants to know anything else, feel free to ask, and i'll answer any questions you got for me :)

Because we influence the online market? Because our standard combos make and break tourneys? If we are this dedicated to finding combos to a child's card game, then yes, we will be crazy. You can't use that against us. We may not take ourselves seriously, but we do take the game to the next level for anyone looking for that extra spice in their deck.

Very good question...Guess because they are the core units of the Empire's marines and a traditional color associated with royalty is blue, but that said, Imperial cultures almost always used purple to signify their royal family. So, by that logic, Ultra Marines should be imperial purple, not royal blue.

im just a noob on here ayways... xD

my first experience with MTG was... back in alpha, i got my first 60-pack of cards, was supposed to be 100% random, but it was not... they were all black lotuses (before they were worth anything... only 20 cents each, as they were originally printed as uncommon...)

well... i was confused, i knew that they werent all supposed to be identical... or stuck together for that matter (most of them were destroyed trying to get them separated, as the coating, i think it was a form of varnish or shillac they used apparently wasn't dry before they were stacked together, and got packed that way... needless to say, i wasnt impressed at the time, i had only a bunch of black lotus cards, most damaged beyond repair, and nothing else (i would not complain if it happened to me today though, as i got a few that were okay)

i was unable to make a deck, i complained directly to WOTC, and they sent me 4 packs of random 60 card decks, i got a force of nature (at the time... the most expensive card in the game) and was real happy, but i traded it for a lot of cards

back in alpha/beta days, the bigger teh creature, the more it was "worth", regardless of abilities of stuff like timetwister or demonic tutor or wheel of fortune, or even stuff like the moxes, which were not worth much at the time ($2) ... if only i had known what i know now... i'd be very wealthy (and have a nicer collection than i have currently)

then came antiquities.. things got more fun :)

anyways, enough reminiscing for me

note: i am sure they stopped using the same coating they used to use back in alpha/beta days, as they used to be a lot more durable, able to take a spill even (if it was cleaned up fast enough) without damage (though would need a cleaning)
