Quest for renewal has three counters on it hopefully. Play protean hydra and equip it with predatory urge. Tap at end of turn to deal its damage to an opponents creature, Your opponents creature will deal the damage back. Unless they have a burn spell, at the end of turn protean hydra will double the damage it was dealt in +1/+1 counters. At the beginning of your turn you untap protean hydra and block as you wish.

Then use the tap ability before your untap phase

And you have to wait a turn (due to summoning sickness)
