Adsaptive Automaton is Eternal Scourge from EMN.

Creature - Eldrazi Horror

You may cast Eternal Scourge from exile.

When Eternal Scourge becomes the target of a spell or ability an opponent controls, exile it.

This does not work the way I thought it did. It is explained properly in responses below.

You exile the Eternal Scourge, not the spell which targets it...

Works much more better with food chain like Misthollow Griffing. http://www.mtgcombos.com/view.php?fid=2&tid=61226

Oh, THAT "it". Well, I guess that makes more sense, since it is kinda hard to exile an ability....
Thanks for the clarification, Knarf!
