Put two elite arcanists onto the battlefield and exile silence onto each of them.
Tap during your turn and during an opponent's turn.
Opponent can't play spells!

Seems like isochron scepter would be a better choice, since creature removal is so popular. Plus, it keeps it one color. Also, the opponent still has the opportunity to play instants before you activate silence, and also in response before it resolves.
