This does two things
1.Draws you a card just for Dread and even more for other Flying, Fear, Intimidate, Unblockable creatures.
2.Your opponent might not be too eager to attack you when you have Dread out so instead you FORCE their creatures to attck and let Dread kill them. It can get even nastier with Grave Betrayal Out

And better yet play Time Warp to get two swings and draw twice the cards.
@Chewy: Just remember that Dread goes back into the library when it goes to the Graveyard.
