plains equal Sundial of the Infinite

At the beginning of your upkeep put the sacrifice ability on the stack, then put the optional soot counter on the stack. Let the soot counter resolve, then, before you have to sacrifice use the Sundial to end your turn.

Some turns later when your opponent has no permanents left start playing!-)

Actually with most decks, you won't have to play at all. Their deck would need 1 cmc creatures with haste and/or burn spells to even really touch you, save a Crush.
So basically don't play this against red sligh.

You could also use Assemble the Legion to allow you to actually play your turns and still feed the stack. Food for thought.

Also, you will need some OTHER method to get rid of the smokestack, otherwise the first time you dont end your turn, you will lose your entire field too.

Some years ago I used to play it with
Breeding Pit
but unfortunately this does not work with the sundial...
Disenchant seems proper or just depending on the game keep the soot counter at a low level (but high enough to clear opponents battlefield).

I would play this in an izzet deck. And add in flash triggers that way you'd never have to play your turn out. Only downside is teferi.
