One way to look at this combo is that you are using two cards, and two extra mana for each activation of the Maze.
Another way to look at it is that you are saving ~$30.
A third way to look at it is that you can also pay BB to make your creatures essentially unblockable, because who uses shadow anymore.
I imagine that working great with Phage or Vraska(+Bog Initiate/Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth). Or shades. Unblockable shades and specters are fun too.
