Get all these out and another zombie (even another Gravecrawler) then sacrifice Gravecrawler to Attrition to kill a creature then recast it from the graveyard (hence the second zombie). When it comes into play, the Carnival of Souls gives you two extra black mana (no life lost thanks to Demon's Horn) which is used to pay for Attrition and the recasting of Gravecrawler.

One can mingle Tablet of the Guilds in with the Demon's Horn, bettering your chances of drawing one.

I admit that this isn't too great, but the keystone of the combo is one (well, two of them) one of the least favorite rares of all time.

this gave me another idea... use it with phyrexian altar for infinite mana/life

i posted it as another combo (and gave some credit to Boyachi for it)


the combo is excellent because it can be easily expanded on :)

Also Draco shows a way to make this combo Commander legal with one card less: replace one carnival and one horn by one altar. Then you could generate black mana first and then destroy the non-black creatures second.
I like these both mono black combos!-) Thumbs up.

The problem with that is that the Altar will only pay for casting the Gravecrawler, not the Attrition. I tried it that way first and found out that I'd be one black mana short each time I repeated the combo.

I see no problem. Have Gravecrawler and another Zombie, Attrition, Demon's Horn, Carnival of Souls and Phyrexian Altar in play.
1. Sac the Crawler to the altar (b floating),
2. cast Crawler (lose 1 life, get 1 life, get b form carnival --> b floating)
3. repat 1. (bb floating)
4. repeat 2. (bb floating)
5. repat 1. (bbb floating)
6. repeat 2. (bbb floating)
...
n. have m b mana floating; pay b and sac Crawler to the attrition (m-1 b floating)
n+1. cast crawler (m-2 b floating)

TL/DR: first cast and sac Gravecrawler to the Altar to collect b mana, then cast and sacrifice the Crawler to the attrition for multiple creature destruction.

Alright, I get it now. Thank you for the explaining it. I didn't think of mana build-up with the Altar.
