I'm actually surprised there wasn't a lot more decks with this combo durring the ravinica blocks type two.

because during the ravnica block... it's focused on the guilds... and each guild has a counter to that...

or counterspells from Dimir...
creature removal from Dimir, Rakdos, Orzhov, Izzet and Golgari...
tokens from Selesnya, Golgari, Rakdos...
the pure awesomeness of Boros, Gruul, Simic and Rakdos...
the creature control from Dimir, Izzet, Azorious and Simic...
and the anti artifact / enchantment of Simic and the other green or white-colored guild...
