This basicly works on any creature with persist or undying. When the creature gets its counter for dying, you remove it with power conduit, to your favour.

So, out of curiosity, would you put the charge counter on the artifact that's taking the counters away if you have no other permanents or what? Because otherwise it looks like you'd still be stuck with another counter.

you will need to put a counter somewhere and since power conduit is an option you would put it there if there are no other options

You may boost the Archmage with +1/+1 counters with the Conduit. Persist doesn't care about counters other than -1/-1 type.

Sage of Fables would be better than the Power Conduit since you may counter up to the number of blue mana you have.
