It costs less than pestilence demon, but doesn't save you from the damage.
Everlasting Torment, along with Repercussion, is one of those red enchantments that belongs in every burn deck (or at least their sideboard)

What's the term for a creature that has a "hit everything" ability?
Basically when you stick a Phyresis on one of those you enhance that ability and make it more potent.
Melira provides a way around the "extra" cost of taking damage yourself when using that creature's ability, making the ability even more effective!
I'm glad to have inspired another combo
