Replace Connoisseur with sacrificing agent of choice, what matters is the Cathars' Crusade/Cauldron Haze combo allowing you to repeatedly sacrifice the same creature to +1/+1 counter all of your other creatures (due the rule change where +1/+1 counters and -1/-1 counters cancel out).

I can't seem to find anything like Cauldron Haze in Standard, unfortunately.

The creatures don't keep Persist when they come back - essentially once they've entered the graveyard and come back they have "forgotten" that they have persist.

Damn. Well you could simply use any creature with Persist in place of Cauldron Haze, and the combo will still work.
