My friend came out with this in EDH and killed three competitors turn one. Cheap win but effective.

Oh, Bond of Agony. Misleading players for far too long.

The issue with Bond of Agony that so many people over look is that all iterations of X, must be the same amount, INCLUDING the X in the cost of the spell. Meaning that in order to pay 40 life and cause your opponents to lose 40 life as well, you'd have to pay 40B to cast it. There's something about the X in the cost of the spell that people just don't see.

Still a good combo. Drop a Dark Ritual in there and you can have a 6-life differential turn one, with you at 21and your opponent at 15. Add more people and it only gets better.

If Bond of Agony cost simply B and read "Pay X life, each opponent loses X life," it would be the most broken card in all of history. Dross/Agony would become a tournament dominating legacy deck. Mulligans declared, reveal Dross, main phase one, swamp, Agony, good game. It don't work that way!
