Oblivion Ring = Fiend Hunter

Plains = Cloudshift

The actual cards are, for whatever reason, not in the database.

Official ruling from the "The Gatherer" regarding Fiend Hunter's exile ability:

"If Fiend Hunter leaves the battlefield before its first ability has resolved, its second ability will trigger and do nothing. Then its first ability will resolve and exile the targeted creature indefinitely."

So what I take this to mean is, if you summon Fiend Hunter, then IMMEDIATELY Cloudshift him before his first ability resolves, you can permanently exile a target creature while exiling a second target through Fiend Hunter's normal means. If you have multiple Cloudshifts on the same play and enough mana to do so, you can apparently do this multiple times.

Am I wrong in this assumption? Is this a valid combo?

You are correct, and just so you know, this works with Oblivion Ring too. You might just need a different way to flicker it.
