I currently run a deck based around this.

With all of the cards in play, sac the Escort to the Altar for W. Then play the Escort back from the graveyard to put a charge counter on the Door and gain 1 life. Rinse and repeat as necessary. Works even faster with multiple Doors/Feathers.

Just out of curiosity.....what sources are you using to get Haakon into play?

I'm currently using Liliana Vess' +1 ability to make me discard it.

Hmmm. Seems like having a 3-cost Altar, 4-cost Door of Destinies, and a 5-cost Planeswalker in play is a lot to protect in order to pull this off. Also, if you're using Liliana's ultimate ability as your only means to reanimate Haakon, seems time consuming, and a risk of having Liliana Surgically Extracted, etc.  Good combo, just seems it would be more effective if you can get Haakon out early. Have you considered Buried Alive/Victimize, or some other cheaper reanimation effects?

use the creature Putrid imp to discard it and maybe Altar of Dementia for the sacrifice.. both at lower mana cost

I used to run a raven's crime to allow myself to discard haakon, which is all I need to do. I don't need any re-animation combos.

7/15/2006 While Haakon is in your graveyard, you may cast it. This follows the normal rules and timing for casting a creature spell; the only difference is what zone Haakon is being cast from. The spell goes on the stack. You have to pay Haakon's mana cost and any applicable additional costs. The same applies for Knight cards you cast from your graveyard while Haakon is on the battlefield.

All I need to do is pay his mana cost and cast him as I would from my hand. The reason I run Liliana is because I can force my opponents to discard and she's a (close-enough) diabolic tutor that I can do as many times as I want.

Ah, I didn't realize Haakon's ruling stated that he could be actually "cast" from the graveyard. That changes everything. The possibilities are endless...... Oh crap.....someone just cast Surgical Extraction on my Haakon........what now?!?!
