Tap Niv-Mizzet to draw. Niv-Mizzet deals 1 damage to birds. Draw another. Stop whenever, just deal the 1 damage to something else. Keep Plates on the birds so it doesn\\\\\\\'t die.

You don't need the shield since the bird prevents damage done to her by herself. You need an additional combo piece which untaps the dragon wizard or makes lots of damage like curiosity...
Please take a look at the results when you type in Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind ahead and search for related combos, you'll find the Niv-Swans combo and other stuff.
