With both on the board, you get some serious synergetic goodness.  At the end of your opponent's turn stack the top 3 of your library with the most expensive on the top using the Top.  Then use the Top to draw a card and put the Top on top.   Confidant triggers and you reveal and draw the Top, then the card for your turn.  Cast the Top again and you're set back up.  It nets 1 extra card drawn each turn for the cost of 2 colorless mana and 1 life.  If you need land, you can set that up as the card revealed with the Confidant by using the Top so you don't lose Any life!
