play swamp, and the 3 dark rituals, (makes 7 mana)
memnite (0 mana) hatred (leaves 2 black mana) pay all but 1 life) then rite of consumption targeting opponent, gain all life you paid ( +1 )

First: good post, this is a nice edit to my unsuccessful combo which also makes it monoblack and doesn't require black lotus.

But secondly, I just want to say that after I posted that combo I was thinking about the probabilities involved here.  The fact is that if I assume we have a 60 card deck with 4 dark rituals, 4 memnite, 4 hatred, 24 swamps and 4 rites; the odds of getting this hand is still almost exactly 16 in a million (0.000015909 to be more exact).  If you assume you will be drawing a card on the first turn and then only 7 of the 8 cards have to be the cards in this combo, then the probability is changed to a much nicer 0.00012727 but this is still only about 13 in a hundred thousand.

So combos like this are candy for us to look at but really not very practical.  The best turn 1 combos would be ones where there are many different cards that would make the combo work (for instance there are MANY 0 mana creatures but I think only memnite has power greater than 0).  I attempted in the combo I posted for the creature to not need power >0 because then i could have 20 of them in the deck making the probability 6 in ten thousand (still very small but nicer, I suppose this combo doesn't REQUIRE memnite since you gain the life back).  But even if all cards in the combo had many versions of them it would still be nearly impossible to get the probability above 1 in 100 which is way too small.

yea... improbable, but not impossible...

the thing is... this is one of many things that can be put together to make a deck that can actually do stuff like this... look carefully and you will see that these cards are not hard to get ahold of, you can also use stuff like moxes, lotus peals, black lotus etc to do stuff like that too... the possibilities are endless

i have a deck that can pull of stuff like this consistantly, but not just with this set there are roughly 12 combos that intertwine and work with or without each other in that deck, and when you think about it, the more possibilities of different combos, the better the odds of the first turn kill

my deck does 1st turn, or if a bad hand, 3rd or 4th turn minimum of 20 damage, max of 80 damage in one go and it does it every time, regardless who shuffled it

anyways... just stating that playing by the odds... can work, but it isnt the way to go if you want to have fun doing it... play by skill helps more for that
