With Filligree Sages and Training Grounds out, cast Prototype Portal and imprint Lotus Bloom onto it.  Tap the Prototype Portal and 0 mana (the CMC of Lotus bloom (a card with no mana cost has a CMC of 0)) to make a Lotus Bloom token.  Tap and sac that token for 3 blue mana, use 1 of it to activate the Filigree Sages ability to untap the Prototype Portal, and the opponent loses 1 life for the artifact dying.  You now are back where you started with 2 more mana than you started with and your opponent at 1 less life.

This combo is Very difficult to interrupt if you get all of the peices out.  Once the first token of the Lotus Bloom drops if they try and kill the Prototype Portal, Disciple, or the sages, you can use the Filigree Sages to untap the Portal in response and do it all again in repsonse to their spell :).

The key part of this combo is the Prototype Portal/Lotus Bloom.  It alone allows you to generate 3 mana per turn that (if you don't use it) will stay around without any of the other cards on the battlefield while also triggering any appropriate EtB and artifact dying abilities.  You could swap the Filigree Sages/Training Grounds for March of the Machines and Dross Scorpion with March making the Lotus Blooms 0/0 Artifact Creatures that die and trigger the Dross Scorpion and the Disciple of the Vault.

Necessary? NECESSARY?!  Do you think it's 'Necessary' that I ...

Oh, yea, well, it makes it infinite mana, but without it your opponent will still die fine :)
