This is pretty basic get vigor out becasue once he is out anytime any of your creatures block they recieve no damage but instead get +1+1 counters on them for the amount of damage they recieve. Pariah shield just goes on vigor so he can recieve the benefits as well since originally his effect only works on other creatures you control

If you put shield on vigor it can just die...! Youd want to put it on another creature that couldnt take damage!

Well, you could just put darksteel plate on vigor to make it indestructible...but that still would solve the problem of using the ability.

You should add in a way that forces your opponents to attack so that you can actually capitalize on this.
