This is similar to, and works well with, the other combo I posted with BSZ but combos well on its own. With Defenses on the board, every time you resolve a Zenith and kill something, you get an elf. Cast a zenith with a few elves on the board and get them right back! The Zenith shuffling itself back into your library is what makes this so good. And if you're playing them, you might as well have Fecundity out to get cards every time you Zenith!!!!
Edit: Oh, and to add, if you do have Fecundity out, you draw the cards AFTER you shuffle the Zenith in :)

or you add essence of the wild and black sun zenith for 5 when you have a few essences out to get many many 6/6's.

What you fail to realize is that Flourishing Defenses counts EVERY -1/-1 counter as a trigger condition. You cast Black Sun's Zenith with X=1, if there are 5 creatures, the defenses triggers 5 times. If you cast it with X=2 and there are 10 creatures, it triggers 20 times.
So you won't just get one elf when one of your elf tokens dies from the zenith, you could geta handful to dozens, depending on mana spent.
