what happens when a 3/3 attacks and player blocks with this? does it get a +1/+1 counter as the other creature dies or does its toughness hit 0 first?

i just picked a random 3/3 creature for this btw

Because the ablitity says that when the creature is put into the graveyard, so by the time your creature gets it's +1/+1 counter, it's already dead (so it can't get it)

It never hits the graveyard, It says Remove it from the game at end of turn or IF it would leave play.  The key words here are IF it would leave play, meaning it doesn't ever touch the grave yard, go to your hand, or to the bottom of your library... it simply leaves play.

 

I just reread this, this only applies if you control both creatures and just unearthed the Viscear. = /
