Any damage that comes your way whether it is direct damage or someone swings a creature at you, you can redirect the damage with the general's regalia (do not block). You pay the 3 mana and send the damage at Thrun. Vigor's ability makes Thrun get a +1 +1 counter for each damage taken. This gives you a huge hexproof regenerating troll at your disposal that doesn't take damage and keeps getting bigger if it is blocked.

good combo if you lose the thrull ... you can't redirect damage from your opponent to a hexproof creature right?

Correct...but to be honest why even play Vigor? The Damn  Troll is broke as it is...

You can target your own creature with the General's Regalia even if it has hexproof. Hexproof allows you to target him (since you control him and you're the one giving him the damage), but not your opponents.

Yes, the Troll is a bit broken...however there are still ways to kill him. In this combo there are less ways to kill him since he can't take damage. Also, there's less of a need to keep 2 mana available for his regenerate ability. Including Vigor is important because it makes it so you redirect damage the doesn't hurt you or any creatures you control, and it helps the broken Troll get bigger. I've used this combo in EDH format, it's formidable.

The regeneration isn't that useful. It's already really "tough" and un-targetable.

Yea, that 4/4 and Hexproof thing alone is enough to make me sigh when it comes out.

Hey. There's still Black Sun's Zenith and Day of Judgement.

You are probably thinking his Regenerate isn't THAT useful because when you use Thrun, you don't end up using Regenerate very much. This is because it is a great deterant. People won't want to swing at you when you've got something with good power that is cheap to regenerate (unless they happen to be a noob). Also, players are less likely to cast spells that do damage to all creatures like Earthquake, since he has Regenerate for a green and a colorless. Anyways, I think its more valuable then it seems. Thrun makes an awesome General in EDH format. I've got a deck built around him.

As a voltron general, hes not nearly as good as uril, rafiq, or geist!

Don't get me started on Uril. He's so horribly overpowered. I've got a friend that spent $200 on an EDH deck with Uril as the General and there's absolutely no reason to play against him. In order to beat this deck you must use something even cheaper, like getting unlimited creatures fast or some equivalent. Try defeating Uril once he is enchanted with "Flickerform". Even if you do manage to win, you'll feel dirty afterwards. Takes the fun right out of the game.

It's already strong enough to absorb their attacks though.
