I wanted to get all the pieces before posting this, and I wanted to post it to make sure it works before I built a deck around it. Enchant Tephraderm with ragged veins or spiteful shadows, force it onto your opponent, and make it damage itself (kiku or wrackwith madness). The tephraderm takes damage, so it damages both its controller and the creature that damaged it, which is itself. The tephraderm takes damage, so it damages both its controller and the creature that damaged it which is itself. The tephraderm takes damage, so it... unto infinity. Does it really work like this?

As a statebased action, it dies when it takes lethal damage!

so it dies the  second time it takes damage from itself (assuming no other modifiers), and the cycle stops? is that right?

Yep! Probably a good idea to make sure the combo works before getting the cards...!

I actually had the idea a long time ago, when i owned tephraderm and bazaar trader and was looking for the kamigawa cards. Then i pulled wrack with madness and spiteful shadows from a booster pack. oh well...

You want to make this infinite? Use some sort of indestructible effect, like with enchanting it also with indestructibility. That'll run it infinite, and you'll get bonus points for enchanting an opponents creatures with Indestructibilty.

EXCELLENT! I have Indestructibility in my soldier deck that I can take out. I hadn't even thought of that.

I don't like to enchant it, I like to Equip it as indestructible. That way when you give it away, if it manages to live or not to what it needs to do you can just equip one of your own creatures.

I also had a quick question since it came up the other day. Lets say a creature is indestructible. So I deal 100 damage to it, but 5 of it is considered lethal, so for the rest of the round the creatures effective toughness total is 0. Wouldn't any further damage beyond 5 be negated because you can't deal more damage than the creature's toughness?

I think, if it's combat damage and your hypothetical 5-toughness creature (tephraderm?) is the blocker, if the attacker has trample, the excess damage goes to you. If multiple creatures are blocking, the attacker deals damage spread out among all of the blockers. If your creature is the target of a single target spell, the extra damage is usually wasted.Someone let me know if I'm wrong or incomplete

No, its not dealt 1 damage, check state based actions, 1 damage, check state based actions, etc! If you read the rule book you wont need to ask questions like this!

@darth-damage is never negated unless the card says so.  Also unless its wither or infect, damage never changes a creatures toughness, rather damage is marked on it.  So your tephraderm is a 4/5 marked with 100 damage on it, which lasts till end of turn.  you can still continue to add damage it you want it will just be marked further

under normal circumstances if the marked damage is greater then the toughness your creature will die as a state based action, however indestructibiity  prevents that.  Though if the indestructibity is targeted with disenchant, to keep it alive you will need to find a way to give your creature +x/+96 (basically make it have 101 toughness) so the toughness is greater then the marked damage.

Does that answer your question?

@otherguy-essentially you have it correct

@pinkie-I have no idea what your talking about, where is 1 damage coming from?
