Yesterday I posted a Standard infinite persist combo. By going Extended, you can pick up a couple of important cards. While it may seem like a bit much to get 4 cards, the important points are:

A) The mana's cheaper. Just 1 or 2 mana for each card. You can do this on the third turn just by putting down one land a turn.
B) With Artificial Evolution, there are a large number of variations on this combo, and you could put enough variations in a deck to reasonably expect to pull it off consistently (though not always on the 3rd turn). With Artificial Evolution, you can use any creature with persist combined with any of Bramblewood Paragon, Oona's Blackguard, or Sage of Fables. Safehold Elite is just the cheapest persist creature; if you use Kitchen Finks instead, for example, you'll get infinite life in the process for a mere 1 additional mana. Bramblewood Paragon was chosen for this example because...
C) The Carrion Feeders will get infinite +1/+1 counters rather than just being pumped for a turn. As a result, with Bramblewood, they'll have trample, which is a much higher guarantee of killing your opponent--trample goes right over indestructible or protected creatures, not to mention chump blockers.

Example play would be like so:

First turn: Play carrion Feeder
Second Turn: play Safehold Elite
Third Turn:
a) Play Bramblewood Paragon.
b) Play Artificial Evolution, targeting Bramblewood Paragon, and change Warrior to Elf or Scout. For any variation of combo, obviously target whichever pumper you played, and make the creature type the same as your persist creature.
c) Sacrifice Safehold Elite to put a +1/+1 counter on Carrion Feeder.
d) Safehold Elite returns to play with a -1/-1 counter from persist and a +1/+1 counter from Bramblewood Paragon.
e) As a state based effect, the two counters cancel each other.
f) Goto step c until Carrion Feeders is strong enough to kill your opponent (or heck, just make it infinite).
g) Attack with Carrion Feeders.

Note that if you have the mana, you can do this in fewer turns. Carrion Feeders has summoning sickness for attacking, but everything else can be done right away.

Finally, note that if you go to Legacy format, there's a few more sacrifice options. Of particular interest is Altar of Dementia.

this does not work since creature retain -1 counters even if +1 counters are put on therefore not infinite but you could use quill spike and devoted druid for an infinite +3+3 combo but if you want to keep this one you need phyrexian alter or carnival of souls and a quill spike that way when you sac your persister you either sac to add one of any or when it comes back to add one black which you can use to pay for quillspikes ability

@xv
Well first of all youre wrong,

"121.2. If a permanent has both a +1/+1 counter and a -1/-1 counter on it, N +1/+1 and N -1/-1 counters are removed from it as a state-based action, where N is the smaller of the number of +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters on it. See rule 704"

and second of all, do you know what a period is?! There these really cool little things that you can use to separate your paragraphs into coherent sentences!

You necro'd a 2 year old combo in order to flamebait other users. I don't think Pinkie's the troll here...

Can't we all just get along?

This site needs moderators... :(

Pinkie wasn't really trolling in this thread, although he/she/it has before.
