or would the damage not cause it to double because of combat damage?

The fact that it needs to be combat dmg does spoil the idea cause it wouldn't trigger the generate token ability. However this would require lots of mana to pull off.

Or does culling the weak stay in play like an enchantment that would constantly allow you to sac a creature.

No, it doesn't stay in play, there's no such thing as a Mana Source card in Magic any more. The card database on this site is ridiculously out of date.

For current wording on any card you have to go to Gatherer.

Dang. I was kind of hoping for it to act like an enchantment. I would've bought four and won with consume spirits.
