Read rules for Bloodchief Ascension
At the beginning of each end step, if an opponent lost 2 or more life this turn, you may put a quest counter on this enchantment. (Damage causes loss of life.) Whenever a card is put into an opponent's graveyard from anywhere, if this enchantment has three or more quest counters on it, you may have that player lose 2 life. If you do, you gain 2 life.

A buddy of mine showed me Vile Consumption after busting out the Mindcrank/Bloodchief combo. A little added incentive, if you will. Cheap to cast and cheap to buy. Didn't see a combo using Vile Consumption yet so I figured I'd put this out there.

I have to say, i have a friend with the crank and can probably get his hands on a ascension very quickly. I should tell him . . .

Whenever I play Ascension/Mindcrank combo, I usually run it with red to get it running as soon as possible. You pretty much have to get it to three counters by the end of the third turn. If you run it with blue, make sure you have things like Steady Progress or Tezzeret's Gambit.

I played the Crank Ascension combo with Mono Black Vampires. Mostly Viscera Seer and Kalastria Highborn. It did exceptionally well, but the B/R version does have access to Volt Charge
