The first time someone did this to me, I did not believe that it worked in the slightest. It took quite a bit of convincing.

When they cast the spell, knowledge pool triggers, allowing them to cast the spell, but because of teferi, they cant cast it because you can only cast a sorcery when the stack is empty!

No, because the only time you can cast the spell is when the knowledge pool trigger that lets you cast the spell is there! I guess its easier to understand if you use omen machine...!

This seems like a design oversight on wizards part, but DAMN that is cool.

I knew that this combo looked familiar, someone did post it, but before knowledge pool was in the database.

Definitely a wording problem here. The important words are, "choose to cast a spell".

I think we should fall back on the base rules that say the card rules are predominant.

It does say, "can choose to cast another spell" which means that since you're in that cards ruling area effect and the original spell was legal when you cast it then you should be able to cast the alternative spell, which is the spirit of the card.

That's just my call and I'm no judge because I hate how the rules work sometimes and this is just an example of that.

So you think that all hard locks should be banned/wording-changed?! Should we change the wording on kismet and stasis?! This is an 11 mana combo that requires 3 blue! Its really not that bad!

I usually like manipulating rules like this, but this seems to be going too far.

How do you know that the imprinted card is cast at instant speed? Because it is in response to an ability?

Erato is obvious though. This clearly took a lot of thinking.

Ironically falling back to the base rules is what this combo does.  You are right that being able to cast the card at that time is the spirit of the well.  In fact that is one of the nice things about the well it ignores all timing restrictions, creatures basically gain flash and all spells become instants.

however when comparing the interaction of two cards you need to look at both specifically in this case teferis only when you can cast a socercy text.  this creates a condition of when things can be cast.

So when you cast a spell the well's ability asks "can you cast this spell" and 99.9% of the time the answer is yes, however, when teferi's around the ability asks that question and teferi then goes "hell no, your on the stack, my conditions aren't met"

And as you know one of the base rules of magic is that NO is always greater then YES
