I've been following this forum for about a year now when I got back into Magic after a very long hiatus, and I finally gave in and created an account.  I don't see too many old-school combos on here, so I thought I'd share one.  I'm a long time player of MTG and this is a fun combo I used in a deck about 14 years ago.  (Remember that our options weren't as vast as they are today)

It's pretty self explanatory, Enduring Renewal allows you to keep returning a sacrificed Ornithopter back to your hand so that you can sacrifice it to your Fallen Angel over and over to make it as big as you want.  (Ornithopter is free to cast each time)  The addition of Ashnod's Altar would let me get unlimited mana in the same deck for other tricks like giant Frozen Shades.  A simple Lotus Petal would be the choice card for that now, however.  It's not the coolest combo ever, but it was a lot of fun back in the day.

Thanks for the welcome Turbine.  I'm also glad to get your "thumbs up" on my first combo.  Hopefully I can contribute some unique things that haven't been submitted yet.

ha ha! I miss this combo. I've used it, although Sword to Plowshares was out at the time. I had a lot of life after I did it! lol

Good to see some more old schoolers on here.

Turbine all the cards in the combo were first printed in before 1995.  consider the game started in 93, its an old combo

Just because they all got reprinted at various points doesn't mean they aren't old.  Ornithopter first came out with Antiquities in 1994, Fallen Angel with Legends in 1994, and Enduring Renewal with Ice Age in 1995.  Then other cards like Swords to Plowshares came out with the original Alpha/Beta sets.  I think 16-18 years qualifies them as "old".  :-)

I got thinking, it might be fun to use Hell's Caretaker in a deck with this combo.  Sac the thopter and res one of the creatures that Enduring Renewal sent to the graveyard when you drew it.  Obviously, you keep getting the thopter back so that you can keep doing it.  Anybody got a good way to dump a ton of creatures into your graveyard and a way to keep untapping Hell's Caretaker so that you can res a huge army in one turn?

Iname, Death Aspect is my favorite. Use it with Artificial Evolution.

Mill cards, like Traumatize, work too.

There's not much untap in Black, so I'd have to suggest Freed from the Real too.

Kokusho works well with Hell's Caretaker too.

i recall when i was in high school, a friend got to meet richard garfield at a gaming convention and had richard sign a demonic tutor... he made it a 0/1 creature with sacrifice to search your library for a card, and you could pay 4 colorless to return the tutor to your hand from the grave...

he also had him sign a hells caretaker, and it was modified to have the ability of pay 3 black: return it from the grave to play (or the battlefield in newer terms)

@Draco_Lich - That's wierd, my last reply ended up being blank. I was just going to say I actually met Richard Garfield at a symposium back in 1994 as well. I wish I had thought of something cool like the cards your friend got modified. My friends got things like Prodical Sorcerors changed to Nuke sorcerors that said "Tap to destroy target player", and fun things like that. Of all the cards I could have chosen to have him sign, I brought him a stupid Orgg. I had him cross off the bad stuff that limited his attacking/blocking abilities so that he was a 6/6 Trample for 3RR and he changed the name to "Orgg: Big and Brave". I guess I could have come up with worse things, but I definately could have come up with something MUCH more cool.

@Turbine - Iname, Death Aspect would work good for what I'm thinking.  I actually found the the Thornbite Staff would work perfect with Hell's Caretaker.  The sac'd creature would untap HC, you res a powerful spirt that Iname put in the graveyard, your sac'd Ornithopter returns to your hand because of Enduring Renewal, you cast it for free and you repeat as much as you want to amass a huge army.

Kuldotha Forgemaster could also be fun to use in this combo with the Thronbite staff equipped, except that you'd be fetching artifacts out of your library rather than creatures out of your graveyard.  Actually, with this, you could nearly place your entire library on the battlefield depending on what you were using.  Maybe I should post this combo seperately?

I found a Mirage Rulebook a prior evening and remembered an endless loop in said index. Such a joke done by rule makers was seemingly a clue of a good combo. Figured I'd share.
