Academy rector is really just to get the wild pair out early. 

play the dreadnought and cast giant growth before it\'s ETB ability triggers. 

I had never heard of wild pair before, and I thought i\'d make a combo with it.  I read the rulings on the gatherer and I\'m pretty sure this works.

It works, but its not as fast as a quicksilver amulet or elvish piper, and it doesnt give you the extra turn! Also theres really no need to splash another color...!

But, uh... wait, what?

Its triggered ability activates... well, immediately as it enters the battlefield. How can you cast an instant before an ETB effect? That would imply casting an instant on a creature you control before you even legally control it.

The ETB effect is a trigger which goes on the stack, when you put it on the stack, you can put any number of instant spells on top of it.
The ETB doesn't go onto the stack till the creature is in play.

It enters the battlefield, wild pair trigger on the stack, giant growth, growth resolves, pair resolves! Pair sees total p/t 30!

Also its a pretty creative combo!

Do we have official rule says that? I always had a question about this. Does the ability/spell checks the target's characteristic, power, toughness..etc as it puts on the stack or when it resolves?

A precision definition will be appreciated.

It checks it when it is put on the stack and when it resolves. As long as nothing is illegal during resolution it uses the resolution info, not the "placed on the stack info".

The placed on the stack info is just used to make sure u have valid targets to play the spell/ability. if you don't the spell/ability is immeadately removed from the stack and i believe put in the graveyard but i maybe wrong and that part. We just always let people "take the move back". I'm not sure what happens in a tourney if you try to play an illegal spell. Ask Gericault, he'd know.

if you try to target something illegal, the spell is discarded.  however, if you use something like spellskite and the new target is illegal the spell's target is unchanged. 

also, i got the info on the legality of this combo from the gatherer entry on wild pair. 

check it out if u want to see.

also, this may not be as fast as an elvish piper or quicksilver amulet, but with this combo, you don't need to have an emrakul in your hand.  I know if i had a deck with Emrakul, i probably wouldn't add more than 1
