Well shield sphere is ok but it loses toughness. big sad face. that is unless u return it to your hand, tap master transmuter, pay one blue mana, and place blightsteel colossus in his place. and then play him again :] everybody is happy! :D (except your opponent, cause he can't counter blightsteel this way...)

Well they could counter the activated ability still. That being said, I wouldn't say that Master Transmuter + expensive artifact = a combo....

the reason its a combo is because of shield sphere. it costs 0 so it just comes right out, plus it gets a benefit too from coming to your hand! it will lose all it's -0/-1's and go back to being a 0/6 (or whatever.)
