If the permanent is colorless, is it still colorless while casting since it isn't a permanent until it goes into play?

It's silly little questions like this that frustrate me about Magic.

How does that help? You make it so they don't have the mana to play creatures, then destroy your own land base.

arty critters cost same.. (colorless ones anyways....) and I guess colorless Eldrazi too for that matter...
