I really kinda want to start playing for ante too. BUt unless you are, you have to remove the card from your deck.

I stopped playing for ante when I realized I had all the moxes and lotuses and all my friends were just playing Fallen Empires in hopes of snagging one of my cards!

I still do, it really is more fun when stakes are on the table.  The only thing I really don't like about ante is if you have a key card, than if that card ends up being your ante, your screwed.  So we developed this system:
  • the card you ante can't be a basic land
  • you can replace you ante card once for free before the game starts
  • after the first replace, you can keep replacing cards, but each time you ante one more
  • if you lose, you can immediately trade back for any card
  • if you lose, you can force trade your card back with any card greater estimated medium value (using magccards.info)
  • In a game when a player dies, they can mutially agree to go "to the death" each player immediately gains 20 life, and gains a player card (acts like a 5/5 creature, but its you).  The loser of a game "to the death" gives his entire deck to the winner, and tradeback rules don't apply

We have house ante rules. You bring a stack of rares or mythics 15 at least they are shuffled and they are anted at points when you would ante a card as to not screw decks. After my highly succesful ante mill run, where a card or two would have been all the difference

My problem with that is it discourages common decks (decks made solely of commons which though they don't win most of their games, they never really lose (because they only lost a $.15 card))

I knew what this combo was going to be before i even clicked it.  the amulet was one of my first rares, and i don't think i've ever used it.
