So I just thought this would be an interesting combination to have in a green-black deck.

If you start out with low mana, you could pay two to suspend phthisis, and wait a few turns in order for it to hit the stack. If you have something like giant growth handy, you can play that on an opponent's creature to increase the amount of life lost (in this case, by 6).

Okay, so I lied, it's not damage and it's probably going to cause them more than 7 life to be lost (depending on the creature size). If you get something like explosive growth, that's 10 loss of life for 6 mana (plus the original power and toughness of the creature).

It's one of those sneaky maneouvers because if nothing else, you have more buffs and destroy spells in your deck.

If you throw Phis. out second turn, most players with common sense don't play creatures.

Why not go black-white and use righteousness...

except rightousness only works on blocking creature which means the boost will not occur when the suspend counter comes off which means you will need to pay the 7 mana, which will be tough with the 4 black, though green makes it alittle easier.

Also i wouldn't say someone wouldn't play creatures they would just be more careful on what they play, or they might through caution to the wind, they don't need to worry about phthsis if they kill you first

I was thinking about, you attack then force your opponent to block so that righteousness has a legal target then after the combat phase, use the black spell.. it will take a minimum of 15 damage from your opponent...

Problem is suspend is an alternative cost, and as such it follows the same steps as casting a spell, except it doesn't use the stack until the last counter is removed.  the first step is announcing what your playing.  which means its face up  so your opponents get to see it, that way they can see that you paid the correct cost and have the correct number of counters. as well as being aware of any possibilites of changing the counters, see deep-sea kraken

The only ability that causes cards to be played face down is the "morph" ability,

What I'm saying is that you cast the spell paying the casting cost not the suspend cost...
