Try this on your first turn.

1. Play a Mountain.
2. Play Black Lotus.
3. Sacrifice Black Lotus for 3 green mana.
4. Use 2 green mana to play Channel, losing all your life except 1, giving you 19 mana.
5. Tap Mountain giving you a total of 21 mana.
6. Using all 21 mana, play Fireball, dealing 20 damage to opponent.

No, black lotus is ONLY restricted in T1/Vintage....as is Channel. So, while this combo (and let me say this is probably the oldest of old combos) is viable, the luck required to get channel AND lotus in your opening hand is considerable.

Lets put it this way, there's less than a 1% chance to pull both Channel and Lotus. This doesn't even take into account the fireball, which you'd better have 4 of to increase your chances, nor does it consider the one additional mountain you'll need. The real chances to pull this combo are probably close to never - I'd figure it out all the way...but there's just no point.

Now, you could use the same combo; channel + fireball; with the 5 moxen, lotus, petal, chrome moxen, and you would have a better chance at pulling it off since you still might net enough mana to cast them, but even then. Pointless. With this kind of card pool to pull from you really should be making a better deck than "Channel + Fireball". Besides the fact that it's super weak against LIGHTNING BOLT after you channel all but one of your life into that Ball that never gets to hit.

The fireball, is no problem, there are about 4 other substitutes that would work in this.

However, anyone who uses channel and black lotus has way to much money to spare.

or has owned them since they were new, and by the time they were super valuble only had two or three in mint condition sitting safely for a buyer in a binder,

There's a guy in my town who owns 2 Black Lotus's, however neither is in mint. Still, 1 is in great condition. I've tried to get both off of him but he refuses to sell either without the rest of his collection along with it and he has way too much for me to afford :(
