Not the best interaction ever, but someone might find good use of this. Sac an initial creature for B, your opponent discards, pay W to make a spirit, pay B to sac it to make your opponents discard again, and so on and so forth. I'm sure theres an efficient way to make this infinite (I say efficient in hopes no one suggests adding 2 doubling seasons and a phyrexian altar), or at least better than it is. Its also at sorcery speed which is a bummer, but hey, not every combo has to be a winner.

@nightmare-yes, it will rotate out out when Innistrad comes in

as to take this infinite kind of tough since you need infinate b and w mana as well as creatures, you can cut out the need for w by removing carin and adding teysa/painters servent, carnvival of souls can give you the B mana, but then you need a way to deal with the life loss

or just go with this

Doesn't need to be infinite.  They will only have about 4 cards in their hand when you get this going, so dig away and put Rack in the deck and Megrim and by the time this gets rolling you should be able to around 8 damage at start and 3 per turn. 

Since you're sacrificing a creature and forcing a discard and having a creature come into play I think there is a lot of potential for other support cards for this.  Since the combo says "player" discards a card you could also use something like Bottomless Pit.

Someone should post up a deck using a speed combo for this to get kicking with a little control like Exile cards.  Since you could use Wrath of God and the like, this would be a good creatureless style deck.

why not they came out in the block before m12

They didn't come out as a set. The cards from the Duel Decks come from different sets.

For example, Hideous End was in the Phyrexia deck. However, it was latest printed in Zendikar, which will go out with Innistrad.

so scars of mirrodin, new phyrexia, commander,knights vs dragons ,ajani vs nicol bolas, m12 , and innistrad are going to be standard on the 30th

Scars of Mirrodin, Mirrodin Besieged, New Phyrexia, M12, are legal, I believe.

i went to magic the gathering card database and looked at a land . it shows when the blocks, duel decks and core sets in order when they came out , so this is just me guessing

I don't play much standard, but its my understanding that sets like the duel deck sets were never tournament legal, regardless of which set the individual cards came out in, or when Wizards released the sets.

Ok lets try to clear this up

Speciality sets such as the dual decks, commander decks, planechase, archenemy decks, are not standard legal as a whole.

However, individual cards in thoses sets, or any set, are legal if they share the same name as a card in a legal set.

So for an example, As of Sept 30, the following sets are legal:

Scars of mirroden, mirroden besieged, new phyrexia, M12, Innstrand

So the card phyrexian arena was in the coalition dual deck, however it is not in any of the 5 sets above so it is illegal in standard in any shape or form

On the same token, the card Phyrexian Hulk was in the coalition dual deck as well, it also was in new phyrexia, so it is legal, also  the 7th, 8th, 9th edition and the tempest version are all legal as well

So to sum up if an version of a card has the same name as a card in a legal standard set, it is legal. 

hope that clarifys things, and before anyone asks the new legends from the commander set are not legal in standard

thank u . i was trying to figure out if dark ritual was legal " which it is not " ,so my deck is legal now. just waiting for innistrad dual lands now.

actually this would do well in a Teysa EDH... spirit cairn, mind slash, sadistic hypnotist, painter's servant, darkest hour, carnival of souls, soul warden, soul's attendant, suture priest, the rack, megrim, liliana's caress, howling mine, font of mythos, etc... sound's like a deck to me!
