Step 1- Play Cursed Rack

Step 2- Play Thought Devourer

Step 3- Donate Thought Devourer to your opponent

Step 4- Look at his expression while you burst of laughter HAHAHAHA!!!

Nice unless you are playing a dredge deck and then depending on what is out in play you pretty much put the game straight in to their hands. A year or so ago before the dredge deck became the way forward, this would be cracking. Now it could lose you as many games as you may win.

Not denying it would be fun to pull out though :D

Well, simple solution is to have Tormod's Crypt and/or Thran Foundry readily available in your deck. So you won't have to worry about that problem. Plus they are so cheap to play but very useful.

but if you REALLY wanna be mean....Play Recycle, then donate it to them...then donate the devourer (or play 2 Gnat Misers) then watch them cry lol

What am I missing here ?  Cursed Rack forces your opponent to discard down to 4.....then you donate a 4/4 flying critter to them, reducing their Max. hand size by 4...

A player's Max. hand size is 7.....reducing it by 4 gives them a Max. hand size of 3.
Cursed Rack would force them to 4 cards, then they discard one to meet Max. 3

At that point you have given them a Max hand size of 3 and a  4/4 flying critter....
What am I missing.....?

I was with Skybreak until I read the new Oracle wording for the Cursed Rack:

'As Cursed Rack enters the battlefield, choose an opponent.
The chosen player's maximum hand size is four.'

As setting effects take effect before reduction/addition, they end up with a max hand size of 0.

This site really needs to update it's card database with the new wording!

It works out fine... just so long as you play cursed first. Haha.

Cursed gives them a hand with 4 cards max.

Donate and their hand then gets reduced by 4.

0 in hand.

Played the other was would be very counter-productive as:

Donate and reduced by 4, giving them 3 cards.

Then Cursed would be useless. Make them discard down to 4 but their max is 3.

Technical play going on here.

You need to read the Oracle wording I posted. Cursed Rack is no longer a triggered ability which causes your opponent to discard down to 4, is instead sets their hand size at 4. The timestamp order doesn't matter.

Time stamp does matter, i looked up devourer and this is the ruling from gatherer

If multiple effects modify your hand size, apply them in timestamp order. For example, if you are affected by Cursed Rack (an artifact that sets a player's maximum hand size to four) and then put Thought Devourer onto the battlefield, your maximum hand size would be zero. However, if those permanents entered the battlefield in the opposite order, your maximum hand size would be four.

cheap and disturbingly effective. after a single game i might not want to play against a deck like that again.
