On one hand, I guess this makes sense. But on the other, the cost for the Druid's activated ability is to put a -1/-1 counter on it, and Merlia's ability stops you from putting -1/-1 counters on your creatures. So in that respect, isn't Melira preventing you from paying the cost? And therefore preventing you from using it? If a card was out that prevented you from tapping your creatures, you couldn't get infinite mana from Llanowar Elves. Who knows, I'm probably missing something, but this might not work.

I agree. Since the cost is a -1/-1 counter, and you can't put one on, you can't pay the cost. It would be like casting Fling with no creatures in play.

It works...trust me...and please don't make me look up the d@mn ruling...we had this argument about a year ago regarding a scarecrow creature...the name escapes me, but it too said it couldn't have counters placed on it.

why is anyone even questioning this? It does not at all work you untap the druid by placing a -1/-1 counter on it if you don't untap it you can't get infinite mana from it only one mana and a tapped druid! Things like this are what floors me about magic people find so many crazy combos in wording then something like this stumps them. Don't worry this does NOT WORK conversation over no counters means no untapping!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
