(This combo happened before Phyrexian Dreadnought's text had been changed for use with Stifle.)

Volrath's Shapeshifter can become 22/2 with trample and haste.

How? I can see it becoming a 12/12 trample or a 2/2 haste, but not both.

But we are correct in saying because it's already in play that you don't have to sacrifice anything to it to keep it, correct?  That sounds like a cool combo.

Then the other question is, first it becomes a Flowstone Hellion and you pay the cost twice to give it +2/-2, so it's a 5/1.  Now it becomes a Phryxian Dreadnaught.  Wouldn't it still have the benefit of +2/-2 on it?  So it would be a 14/10?

Here's another example.  You have the shapeshifter and it's a 2/2 Bear.  You block something that's a 2/2 and to keep your shapeshifter you Giant Growth it, so it's now a 5/5.  Your opponent, thinking he'll be cute lets it resolve (thinking it doesn't keep its stats when it changes) and then casts Giant Growth on his 2/2 which is now a 5/5 as well, so you respond by discarding a Shivan Dragon, making your Shapeshifter a 8/8, correct?

To site another more visible option, if it has a Pacifism on it and it shapeshifts, it still can't block or attack.

If you remove Haste though when it changes, it will reincur its summoning sickness.

you put the flowstone triggers on the stack (after it has been declared as an attacker) then put the discard trigger on the stack... suddenly you have a massive tramply creature
